Alrashid2 171 #1 Posted November 22 Hey guys. Noticed today that the front left wheel has some pretty bad camber. Top is angled outward, bottom angled inward. Right tire looks fine. Hard to capture in a picture but I got two photos here showing the right wheel lines up square with the rear wheel while the left tire is obviously canted. I know toe is adjustable on these. But is camber? Only thing I could see would be somehow removing that piece of the front axle and bending it in a vise with a hammer, but that makes me nervous... Lot of trial and error too. What do you guys think? Thanks!

kpinnc 12,174 #4 Posted November 22 I would check your wheel bearings. Other than that, you probably have a slightly bent steering knuckle. Pretty easy to source another one. …But if you’re tough enough to bend it in a vise- even with a hammer, I never want to meet you on the street! 3

ri702bill 8,387 #6 Posted November 22 Do raise the front axle & remove both wheel assemblies. Look for worn out bearings and worn thru spindles - rather common.
Lee1977 6,682 #7 Posted November 23 If the wheel bearings haven't been changed it needs some new ones. As said above worn spindles are common if it hasn't been greased regularly. While you are there even with good bearings and spindles it need shim washers to the the wheel doesn't move on the spindle.
Pullstart 62,945 #8 Posted November 23 That is surely some positive camber. Unless gravity has changed, I can’t see worn components working the wheel that direction. I’m with @pfrederi. Ignore it. I’m also for making sure the rest of the front axle parts are tight, but I just can’t see wheel bearings or a worn spindle making it head positive.
peter lena 8,653 #9 Posted November 24 @ri702bill @Lee1977 always have those HILLMAN MACHINE WASHERS ON HAND, 3/4 1-1/4 18 GA , all 3 of mine have the lucas chassis grease in the bearings , as well as a detailed fitting of that area , critical to eliminate the sloppy loose side bearing thrust , used XIKE BEARINGS , MODEL 532009040. , FOUND ON LINE , GET A LOT OF TIME ON THAT SET UP , WITH NO ISSUES , PETE

Gravity always wins, and the wheel and tire would have a negative camber ALWAYS with worn components.

The idea is to slightly "crowd" the ball bearings on the spindles so that the inner races remain stationary on the spindles - only the balls & outer races revolve. Pullstart 62,945 #14 Posted November 24 Sure, you can make negative camber. But with worn parts, you’ll never “oops wow there’s some positive camber.”
Alrashid2 171 #15 Posted November 25 All makes sense to me. I wonder if that spot in my garage might be a bit sloped too. I noticed when I parked it in the shed, the camber issue wasn't nearly as evident. I also drove through some mud and when I drove over a bit of dry concrete, the tread marks left from both front wheels looked even... so makes me think the tire is sitting squarely. Will keep an eye on her!

It can be welded up and ground back round. 1
