Ed Kennell 38,094 #1 Posted Monday at 08:11 PM We were not home for 4 days, so the bird bath needed filled. About 15 minutes after I filled it, this dude showed up for a swig. He had it all to himself. None of my bluebirds jumped in. 8 5 6

That's an alternative name for a Cooper's hawk. That's too big to be a cooper.
Mickwhitt 4,604 #8 Posted Tuesday at 12:19 PM Eric, the chicken hawk reference comes from watching Foghorn leghorn as a kid. So funny to see the little hawk trying to drag the big ole rooster off to the stove. Mick 1

When I butcher, I always feed the critters. Here is a Red Tail on this years deer kill remains. I see the hawks and eagles often perched on poles along the roads waiting for a road kill. 1

kpinnc 11,962 #20 Posted 7 hours ago (edited) We have a lot of pasture land around us. I enjoy when hay is cut, because the red tailed hawks show up in droves. For them it’s a field mice and rabbit buffet! Edited 7 hours ago by kpinnc

kpinnc 11,962 #23 Posted 5 hours ago Growing up, my dad was always bringing home injured birds he found at work. The ones that stand out in memory were a hawk, an owl, and a great blue heron. I always knew he was a bit crazy, but catching either of those with his bare hands probably could have been entertaining to say the least. He always had contacts that did animal rescue and recovery, but he liked to show them off first. You just never knew what he had in the trunk of the car when he came home!
