Engine for my 1054 (black Betty)

Recommended Posts

Donavon1

Need some help deciding on a brand of engine to buy for my 1054. (Needs to be a diesel 10 hp+) I’m refining used motor oil/cooking oil for fuel for it. So it will have to have an option to run used oil and diesel

Do some searches on here for “%Diesel”. There have been several retrofits over the years.

A "Grease Buggy"!! Nice. You will most likely need TWO fuel tanks - one with straight diesel to start it and the second that smells like french fries to run it.

We had a guy at work that did the conversion on his diesel VW Jetta. (We also made the OE switching valve to choose the tank.)

@Achto has one.

Interesting that you'll be "burning the leftovers".

I like that.

I ran a 2001 Ford Powerstroke 7.3L for a few years on used oil, transmission fluid, fryer grease, etc.  I filtered it all down to 5 microns with a barrel pump in my garage and dumped it in the main tank.  It ran great, and the fry grease always smelled the best!  I made no changes to the engine or fuel system on the truck.

If you make up 5gal of used fuel oil, you should have enough to run a single cylinder diesel for a year.:thumbs2:

There are plenty of Yanmar knock off's out there at a low price. There was one of these at @WHX??'s plow day this year, seemed to run strong with no issues all day.

I have a Hatz diesel in Radpferd. High quality engine with a high end price. This engine burns about 1Qt of diesel per hour pulling a 10" Brinly plow. Very good engine,  if you can find one.

Kohler also has their hat in the ring with small diesels. They are very proud of their engine as well.

Make sure that you are filtering your used oil properly, injector holes clog up easily.

Personally, I would go with a Yanmar knock off. If you end up having issues with the used oil, you will only be out hundreds not thousands.:twocents-twocents:

You know those people that have too many projects?? Yeah me neither!

Another tractor added to the heard. Case International 585 with canopy/sunroof.
It's a 60-ish horsepower tractor with very limited electronic gimmicks. Has a nice tight turning radius. It was built in Doncaster from 1985 to 1990 and the hourmeter says it has ran 4700 hours since then, I'll take that with a grain of salt though.

Plan is to use it for all kinds of jobs around the house and barn/stable for my gf's horses.
Ofcourse it is not a new machine so there are things that will need looking after but all the basics are there.
      Pictures you say? Sure!

Hi All, I’m a member of the RedSquare Facebook group, some of you may have seen My tractor there. I have a 1992 312-8 with a 37 inch deck. It came with a house my brother bought, and was given to me. It needed work but just minor things. I mow my lawn with it, and I just bought a plow to push snow/dirt so it’s a working restoration. It was relatively well taken care of by the previous owners so it really just needed a refresh. Anyway see you around the site!

I have for sale a 1984 C-105 with deck and Snowblower. I got this as part of a package. There’s no battery and I haven’t tried to start it. I’m selling it as a project. The deck has one spindle out, but with it, as prior owner claims bearing was replaced. The snowblower has the flag and looks to be in very good condition. All but 1 tire holds air. The mower is complete. Includes mule drive. The extra hood (c-175) you see in the picture can go with the tractor for an additional $50. Thx for looking.
