Working on 1800's barn

The years that it took for those beams to sag, don't expect them to lay back down over night.

Kinda like how it works with rust.

Absolutely. I got a couple weeks at least before a floor will start going in. So it will have time to settle in to the new position.

Then they will be forced into position haha.

There was a ridiculous suspended load too, it already came up around a inch just from removing the concrete

In my opinion you would loose some strength since the beams have already been forced to the present shape. I would suggest sistering them up with 2 X 12s on both sides bolted through the beam. Forcing them into a straight line may crack them            :twocents-02cents:

It's possible. But over the entire length of the beam which is 36' 2 1/2 inches isn't actually a huge amount, but yes it definitely will be destressing for a while. But I'm not putting any kind of weight that was on it, probably ever.

I will probably sister part of the beam where they took a small chunk out where they ran bolts through to suspend the beams.

Only the one beam pulled up out of the notch and I don't know that there was anything even holding it in the notch other then gravity.

It's been pretty cold and actually snowing got to use the snowblower a little bit mostly on a couple drifts. So I haven't been working on the barn.

But got a little done today. Got the connection on the beam strengthened up.

I realize better would be a solid piece all the way to the post, but using what I have.

Worked on the barn some more today after pulling the kids around behind the B100 in a sled before the snow melts.

I got all of the floor removed in the 1/3 of the barn that I have been working on. Next is getting the bolts and removing those 2x12's and the post. After that I will level the beams and start laying down the new floor in some of that area need to move at least the stack inside the barn so I can get the rest of the barn floor up.

I've have been working on the barn a bit just nothing picture worthy until now. Got all the beams cleaned off, nails removed, and leveled out. Next moved the stack of 2x10's I had in the next section of barn, to be able to take the floor up.

And no they are not nailed down and yes I am going to stagger them.

With the lumber out of the way I was able to take this last "wall" out

Getting more flooring tore up, still struggling with the time to save wood vs saving time throwing it away. But thinking about how much wood costs haha.

Save it. It's worth the investment in time just for the salvation of antiques.

I am saving as much of the old growth true 2x 2" thick stuff that is worth saving.

I am more talking about the new pine 2x 1.5" thick stuff. It is replaceable, but its still not cheap.

I have a deadline of mid May of getting the new floor down and done.

I lost track of this thread, and went back a few pages for an update.  I was surprised to read updates with amusement, only to see I already liked it!

What is the May timeline for again?  Was it mentioned in the beginning?

No you are right, I didn't mention that before. The deadline is from my wife, she wants to use it for a garage/barn sale.

Got more done on the barn. Just got that bit of top layer left to pull up and remove nails.

Then everything else is getting thrown away.
