NewWheelHorseGuy1 0 #1 Posted November 16 Good afternoon, I recently purchased a Wheel horse 212-6 mower and I have been searching around to try and locate a manual for it but the master model list I got off of mywheelhorse.com does not have any 212-6 models on it. I'm wondering if there is a different model that has the same specs as this one? I tried to locate a serial or model number and there is no metal plates riveted on the machine anywhere with that information. The only tag I could find is under the seat and I'm having trouble reading the full numbers on it. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it! wh500special 2,188 #4 Posted November 16 The 212-6 was the top of the line lawn tractor when those were new. It has the Kawasaki engine, a higher back seat, wider tires, and the chrome wheel covers. All the other 200s had Briggs engines. Later 212’s (those that say Toro on the hood decal) ended up with a Briggs instead. The Kawasaki uses a battery ignition system so the key switch is different and the tractor needs a battery to run (pretty sure). When my dad bought his 211-4 new in 1987 I had my eye on the 212😎 The vertical shaft lawn tractors don’t enjoy the popularity or enthusiasm of the larger garden tractors. Which is a pity since they are a lot more maneuverable and are great grass cutters. The transaxles are pretty tough for what they are but weren’t for plowing or tilling. About the only thing I can think of that suffers abnormal wear on there are the joints in the steering drag link that eventually wear out. Otherwise they are solid machines. They also don’t share the depth of knowledge on this forum that the horizontal tractors do. But they aren’t so unique that anything is unsolvable on them either. Your tractor is the second generation 200 series known as the L chassis. Earlier 200s were the B chassis and lack the aerodynamic headlights. The L chassis is probably a lot faster around the yard as a result. The two generations share almost nothing. This series eventually grew into the 240 series which looks about the same but was longer and would take a tiller. The 240s are significantly different from these though despite the similar looks. Eventually the 240 became the plastic-hooded 260 series with the range topping model 270 (“is he making this up?” You’re asking yourself). The B chassis 200s morphed into the 250 series (and the 220 series in Europe). Nothing in common either. The unicorn YT14a was also a B/200/250 derivative. What’s the point of this diatribe? Most guys lump all the vertical shafts together as “the 200 series” when there are a lot of variations on several themes. So you gotta sorta know what exactly you’re looking for when you need implements or parts. Yours had a snow blade and/or snowthrower on it sometime in its life. The attachment lift handle on the left side was part of those implements (maybe the dethatcher too) and not standard on the tractor. Kind of hard to find the lever these days. NewWheelHorseGuy1 0 #5 Posted November 23 @wh500special Thanks for the reply! A lot has been done to this mower which threw me through a few loops going through it. Someone prior to me wired in a push button start instead of the light switch so there is a bunch of loose wires hanging around behind the battery and I want to try to go through that (as well as the rest of the tractor) during the winter months here in New England. I'm unsure if the key switch is original on top of having that push button start. I have mismatched tires on the back as well but with a few parts mowers I have, I think I can scrounge together 2 matchers to go on. I also love the chrome caps that came on it and on top of that all 4 of them were there! This mower did not have a snowthrower or blade with it, just the mowing deck. Thats alright with me because I did not plan on doing snow with is just mowing the lawn. I was curious about the lever on the side so thanks for answering that for me! Thank you for all that information! It's a lot to take in for me but I'm very excited to get into the Wheel Horses as I've always liked the way they look.
