Internationalcub67 9 #28 Posted November 18 I just visited that site but the points mounting looks different than mine. My points have 2 flat head screws on top and bottom that hold it to engine. That website has a picture of points for a pull start and they look different with only one mounting hole. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
wallfish 17,026 #29 Posted November 18 Fine grit sandpaper sliver (600 or higher) pulled through the points contacts while they're closed. Keep going until the paper runs clean. Black grit gives a good visual to see what's going on as go. Or a file can be used too. Clean both contacts well. 9 outta 10 times it won't need new points as long as they're not pitted real bad and it's 90% faster than using bills to do it. You could finish up with a bill to clean any grit residue if you want but I don't bother. Never had a single grit problem by doing it with ? 40-50 engines +. New points would also need the contacts to be cleaned to remove the coating on them so they make contact. You can verify good consistent connection of the contacts with a meter if it doesn't spark. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
