There's a few collectors or dealers that still sell them once in a while but I don't know of any municipality or even private party that uses one on the road anymore. You could plow your drive way in 1-2 passes. You’ll need a hell of a counter weight though…

8ntruck 6,998 #6 Posted November 14 @ebinmaine You ought to acquire a plow like that for your big tractor project - what was the name? Giganto? Maximus? Mega Horse?
CCW 1,293 #7 Posted November 14 As long as you put enough weight on the rearend.
MainelyWheelhorse 431 #8 Posted November 14 Hey, @ebinmaine scale up and mod Wheel Horse decals to a an old IH tractor big enough to push that then you have a “Clydesdale”😁
Bar Nuthin 203 #9 Posted November 14 Would be a nice mod but the price of red paint for that much surface area makes it impractical.

The price of the paint is the deal breaker ???? Not the fact that it's like 8 feet in every direction??

And a camera on front to see what you're plowing. Edited November 14 by Bar Nuthin 1

The trucks that were built to move these giant plows originally would have had anywhere between 16 and 24 gears.

Rode it at their proving ground but wasn’t allowed to drive it. Kinda seemed like overkill to me but the demonstrator explained how important being able to match speed/power to each implement and conditions was critical to efficient farming. 1
c-series don 8,688 #21 Posted November 15 That’s how I learned how to drive a 10-wheeler. A 1970 L9000 with a Caterpillar and a 5+4 speed. Yes two sticks,20 gears, but you really didn’t need all of them. Maybe if the truck was loaded with dirt and we were pulling the bulldozer on the tag trailer. I learned how to skip gears in that truck when it was empty. I was only 18 years old doing that, don’t see any 18 year old kids doing that anymore!!

ebinmaine 67,422 #23 Posted November 15 I have rare occasion that I miss "runnin up through the gears" but I have to admit I'm getting a tad wee bit spoiled by the modern fully automatic trucks.

But never tried. I've seen several Twins that had an extra lever with it like a splitter or an Overdrive. Up at Owl's Head Transportation Museum one year there was a Land Roverish SUV that had a couple auxiliary transmissions along with the original and a four wheel drive transfer case. Low/ Low/ Low/ Low/ Low/ Low/ Low/ Low/ blah blah blah what ever it was had a division so steep the owner didn't use the clutch to put it in gear. 5 sticks? Maybe 6? And then there's a Unimog...... 😬
