jeff w 4 #1 Posted Friday at 08:08 PM My eight HP Kohler is a great little powerplant. My Question: Runs fine when using PTO, but when not it seems to race to a higher rpm. Have adjusted governor but doesn't seem to help. What is the carb (Walbro) need adjustment.? Thank You
ri702bill 8,278 #2 Posted Friday at 10:03 PM Jeff - the 8HP Kohler on both of my C 81's have a Carter carb. There are 2 adjusting screws - one for the idle circuit and one for high speed. Getting the correct transition from one to the other can take some practice. Is your throttle shaft worn in the carb bores?? That will cause an issue. The Main (high speed) adjusting screw is hollow and NEEDS to be kept clean, as it is an air bleed. Ther are two TINY holes - one at the top, the other at the taper. It too can cause issues. kpinnc 11,866 #3 Posted Saturday at 02:39 AM (edited) This is always helpful as well even if your throttle link is the ball joint type. Very important if it’s not. If you add a light spring between the governor arm and throttle tab (most Kohlers are pre-drilled for this), your governor response will be much better. The old solid links tend to wear just enough to create a little slop. Edited Saturday at 02:39 AM by kpinnc 1
