fourwheelhorseman 298 #1 Posted November 6 It seems complete but needs a few things. It’s an 8speed, I’m pretty excited to have it, especially for as little as I paid for it. It needs a choke cable, front tire and a gas cap. The guy said it ran good when he parked it around 5 years ago. I’ll work on in the next couple of weeks and report back. 5

But it is a Kohler so it will be running in no time. Nice looking tractor, keep us posted on your progress. 3

It has the flip up seat pan with latch, I’m not sure when they stopped doing that, but my 75 hydro has the style where the seat itself flips up to acsess the dipstick for the hydro fluid. I’m guessing a 73-74?

So to clarify, my 1974 has exactly the same set up as my new one, my hydro model has the rear fender that doesn’t lift up, but the seat does to expose the hydro dipstick, is that a hydro thing? Or a year/model thing?

(A manual transmission would have a whole tool box because there's no hydro pump.) If ONLY the SEAT tilts FORWARD then it would be a 1976 or 77. 1
Lagersolut 663 #14 Posted November 7 Always wanted a C-160 but could never find one that was in decent shape and 8 speed - when I found the 416-8 with the K341 in almost perfect shape except for sitting in a barn for years - that will do nicely - Very nice find -all the tin is straight doesn't look abused - a little TLC will be a good machine 2

I started out looking for a 314-8 and stumbled across a C-160 and fell in love with the style. I jumped on it not knowing what warning signs to look for. I got my C-160 home and found a bad seal leak on the transaxle. Here I was with no experience on or a place to dig into it. I was sick I met these guys and they helped me diagnose a bad outboard bearing in the transaxle my first thought was to try to unload it as quickly as possible to cut my losses. A good friend that offered his shop and these guys letting me know that their knowledge was at my full disposal convinced me that I could do this. My buddy threw in with me for a couple days in his shop and we had the tranny cracked open and a parts list compiled. I took the parts home, built a jig from a crate to reassemble it on in my tool shed, and actually got it rebuilt in that little shed. My buddy asked first dibbs if I decided to sell after he saw how well built it was (8 pinion rear end....) I told him of course and that I would leave it to him if I die before he does. He's an A&P Certified Mechanic and a great "Brother in Christ" After doing the rebuild I was actually glad that I had the problem. My friendship with Shawn grew along with these guys. I learned so much mechanically (still a lot more to learn), and got a nice and clean working transmission. You can find my photo's of the before and after. I don't have to worry about sub freezing temperatures locking up the transmission as some that I have read about finding water was the culprit. I do have a stronger adiction to wildlife photography that I turn to when I start thinking of adding to the heard. I just don't have room for another out of the weather. My pictures just take up hard drive space. If you do find problems with this new one, you have come to the right place. Hope all goes well, Joe Edited November 9 by GAJoe
fourwheelhorseman 298 #16 Posted November 9 I plan on putting it back into service. I have a weird thing about making everything “ correct” on these old wheelhorses, fortunately the parts are readily available and I know enough about the kohler engine and wiring to put it back to original factory condition ..except I HATE to paint.
ebinmaine 67,761 #17 Posted November 9 I'm not super into painting either. I lack the desire to prep the surface correctly. I've heard/ read over the years, "painting" is roughly 95% .... NOT painting. The whole process is all about the before and after to when the spraying is actually occurring. It could be said exactly the same for welding. I don’t enjoy it, I do however enjoy the end product! I’ve painted a couple in my time.. they all turned out pretty nice. 2

fourwheelhorseman 298 #22 Posted November 22 (edited) Well an update on the most recent 160, I need to go through the fuel system, the 8 speed is stuck in hi and the charging system isn’t working correctly. The 8 speed issue I’m hoping will work itself out, I drained the old muddy sludge and replaced it with ATF for now, I’ll get it running and run it up and down my drive way with that new oil for a bit, then eventually drain it and replace it with gear lube, I’m hoping the hi low will unstick itself. The tractor has small issues but it has great potential and I will get it going! I’m planning to work on it this weekend. I havnt been able to make it to the shop for any real work for a couple weeks or so, bow season and work have been taking up a lot of my time.
