Wayne0 539 #1 Posted October 31, 2024 What do you people use to keep the little bastards from nesting in your machines? Particularity under the engine tins. Big Red is "indoors" so no problem, however, Ole' Rusty lives in a lean to shed.

rjg854 11,530 #3 Posted October 31, 2024 My preference is snap traps and raisins for the bait. 2

Pullstart 63,122 #5 Posted October 31, 2024 I have had the best results with snap traps, but I did just order some of these bucket lids on the jungle site. Sometimes resetting 12 traps a day is not my favorite and I need a quick fix. They flourish around the chicken coop especially, which happens to be close to my shop. 2

Luckily, my coop is not near the shed.

WHX?? 49,282 #9 Posted November 1, 2024 (edited) Mice say what !!! Open season!!! I don't like poison 'cause I wanna see them dead!!! 'Sides the fox likes a snack when I have fresh kills. Another drawback to poison is keeping the dogs out of it. Made a few of these with 1 1/2 pvc ... dog proof. Use the poison blocks with the hole in them. They go on a threaded rod in the center piece as the mice eat them another one drops down. Edited November 1, 2024 by WHX??

I’m tired of relocating them. I lost count at 200+ and they’ve cleaned the Pecan Trees of another years crop.
Achto 27,844 #11 Posted November 1, 2024 The bait stations that @WHX?? made are a great idea. Lets the mice get to the poison & keeps your pets away from it.\

Plus it will keep the smell away if you can't get back to check the traps for a few days.

WHX?? 49,282 #14 Posted November 1, 2024 Then you can just scoop them out with her kitchen strainer ... Tree rats a whole nother ball game Ollie. You take care of one and 20 of it's cousins move in. Pretty much a losing battle. The little red ones ... we call them pine squirrels ... can cause some devastating damage they get in an attic. I always thought the barn cats kept them away but they must be getting lazy too. If your pecans are far enough away from other trees you can wrap a piece of tin around the trunk or bird feeder poles. Round HVAC duct works good. They will congregate around the bottom for wind falls then & easy pickens for Wayne's cure. Mr. fox loves them too.

Mickwhitt 4,759 #18 Posted November 1, 2024 My friends has meeces in her loft space. She heard the scrabbling and I found droppings and eaten pipe insulation. Put some bait blocks up there to see if we can persuade them to vacate. But once they are in I fear they will come back....

(from a rifle) Has to be close range. Edited November 1, 2024 by Wayne0

The recipe for mothballs changed some years ago and they are no longer effective for much of anything.
