Walleye Guy 22 #1 Posted October 30 We've been working on my dad's Wheel Horse 753 (see link below) on and off as time allows. Long story short, we installed a new Kohler replacement pulse pump but the engine might not have a strong enough pulse so it doesn't run well with that pump. However, it runs great when we temporarily gravity feed it from another tank. I'd like to get a mechanical pump instead. Can someone tell me the OEM Kohler P/N for a mechanical pump for a 7 hp engine (engine SN = 652365, engine spec number = 28626E, engine model number = K161S)? The cam does have the lobe (offset to the side) for a fuel pump arm…I saw it myself when the fuel pump was removed. Thanks in advance for any response and also for sticking with me through this. Walleye Guy 22 #3 Posted November 1 Thank-you for that manual! The good news is that by using my engine spec number it guided me to #24 (which is my variation number) to confirm that B-231390-S is the correct pulse pump. Unfortunately, I am unable to determine the correct number for the mechanical pump because, I believe, it would change the engine spec number. See attached file and you'll see that four pumps are listed (one is the pulse pump) as well as one fuel pump spacer. 1. C-230361 (pump with hand lever) 2. B-231390-S (pulse pump which we purchased) 3. A-231796 4. 41-559-01 Fuel pump spacer = 232515 Can one of the Wheel Horse gurus out there tell me which number is the mechanical pump that would fit my engine? Thanks in advance! rmaynard 15,417 #4 Posted November 2 I find that a pulse pump usually works just as well as a lever type. You just have to make sure that the diaphragm is in good shape, and the little wafer valves are clean.
Walleye Guy 22 #5 Posted November 4 (edited) The one we bought was an NOS unit and, when initially installed, it didn't pump at all but then we realized that the oil fill plug was only finger tight. After tightening the fill plug it pumped a tiny bit but now it doesn't pump at all so we think either (a) the diaphragm broke or (b) the engine is a little tired and thus the pulse isn't so great so we thought we would switch over to a mechanical pump. I'm still hoping one of the Wheel Horse Gurus out there can tell me which of the P/N's I listed above would be the correct mechanical pump for our engine.
