Rick3478 428 #1 Posted October 26 Friends - I have a couple project tractors that I'm not going to get around to fixing up due to health and advancing age, and I'd like to pass them on to some of the people on the forum who have been kind and helpful to me over the years. I'm trying not to over-step. If I understand correctly, you don't want auctions or links to eBay on the forum. Moderators can step in and clarify or steer me in the right direction. Having said that, what is the best way to approach selling these? Can I ask what y'all think they are worth, then list them on here at that price and reduce until they sell? Does that work? Or should I just go directly to eBay and assume y'all will find them there? Do all or most of you have eBay? Or have other suggestions? They are: '89 312-H with 37" SD mower and bagger, and one of the repro foot pedal kits I'd be willing to let go with it. '96 314-8 with 42" RD mower, the "anniversary" special. Thanks!
wallfish 17,023 #2 Posted October 26 Post them up for sale in the classified section here. Think about what you need to get out of them for a price and use that. Go a little high and wait for offers is one possible way or pass them along quickly with a fair and reasonable amount. Either way I'm sure there are members that would love to have them. No one can give an accurate price from a couple of pics and no information about them like Do they run? Tires hold air? Sitting how long? Etc Etc. But some guys might be along and provide a price range for you to think about. They appear like they just need to be cleaned up and some tinkering to bring them back to their former glory.
Ed Kennell 38,331 #3 Posted October 26 Good advice from John. You could use the sites to look for comparable tractors. This may help you determine what they are worth. With some clean up, they both look to be nice worker tractors. Good luck finding good homes.
WHX?? 48,854 #4 Posted October 26 Yes I would say put them up here first. Only problem with listing here is guys that want them are halfway across the country but they know the tractors. Then maybe CL or heaven forbid FB market place. Market place you are gonna have to weed out the idiots who don't even know what they are buying & CL has the crazies. I have a 856 on FB now and kids want it to turn it into a mud tractor & scrap pile. I can sense them out and tell them it's not for sale to them. The pros with those places is a better local market. If you can get them to the BS chances are real good they'll get a good home. Prolly what I am going to have to do to cull the herd. Good luck with your gals. Rick3478 428 #5 Posted October 27 Thanks! Neither one has run in over a decade, but they have been under roof out of the weather. I expect the motors to be stuck but not badly, and front tires are flat but rear may be okay. I don't know if mice have nested inside the motors, that has happened to me in the past. Ideally, I would like to not have to work on them, though I actually enjoy wrenching on things. I'm just not finding much time for "elective" activities anymore, as wife and I are both having some health issues. Getting old sucks, 'nuff said about that. I suppose I should pop off the inspection port slash regulator to peer inside the cooling shrouds and see if they will spin. I'll try to do that before weather turns too bad, and then post in the classifieds based on what I find. Or someone can make me an offer in the meantime. I'll leave it there for the moment. Rick3478 428 #6 Posted October 27 Minor update: The 314-8 spins by hand and seems to have compression. That's as far as I got with it today, was working mostly on other things and running out of daylight and energy.
