HoosierJeff 1 #1 Posted October 25 I picked up a free Toro Wheel Horse 12-32XL Recycler. Model 71188 Serial 4902839. Trying to rescue her. I have the engine running fantastic. Noticed both drive and deck belts were cracked, so I got some replacements and started that process. 95 inch drive belt and 51 inch deck belt is what my google foo came up with. I remember testing the clutch cable under the seat for about 1/2 inch of play before, I took the deck and belts off. Now I have the drive belt back on and have what appears to be inches of extra cable. The manual for this old girl does not show detail on clutch cable routing. It kinda feels like it should be retained at another point on the left side of the frame to take up some of this slack. Brake and Neutral has no effect, I admit my belt size may be wrong, its hard to find the correct belt sizes on this 30 yr old tractor. I am sure this is something simple, I have a habit of making things that work, not work. Ideas? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

WHX?? 48,813 #3 Posted October 25 (edited) Should be real easy to find the correct belt if you have a IPL & Toro Part No. We find them all the time for 60 yr old tractors. Looks like yours is a '94 but we have very little for that model in our library. I have no idea on the cable routing. I have a 16-38XLH that may be similar. I'll take a look but is a hydro. Guessing this is a gear jammer? Yes its a gear jammer, and I should have taken photos before I started taking things apart. I have the owners manual and the service manual. I blame my wife she interrupted my work. lol. I have two of these and one looks like it has marks where a clutch cable will run. peter lena 8,604 #9 Posted October 26 @ hoosier jeff , those service bulletin's and related model / year look up should give you a look / see to your issue , also note the related , pulleys on that , probably rough / noisy in operation , that could also be your start for cable related failure , pully bind / stopping immediately slams back at directive source , cable , cables are also never lubricated , as well as related linkage / lever connection points , never worked on that model , but would bet on any related movement point , binding / freezing up . bet it started as a lubrication failure / or lack of , and just kept increasing . pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The drive belt guide on the left has an place for the clutch cable wire to route through taking up the slack. Now my problem is the blade does not disengage, it is always running. The idler pulley appears to be moving in and out as it should when I manipulate it. Searching for solution now. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
