NAPA Battery

Does anyone have a battery brand they prefer to use on their Wheel Horse ? As far as I know these are made by East Penn for NAPA. I have been using their batteries for many years with great results. When I sold my C-165-8 earlier this month I had just installed a brand new NAPA battery in it. I decided to remove it and install that in one of my Kohler twins and swap it with this battery pictured to be able to do a no charge involved in the transaction to help out the buyer. I do not take care of my batteries as well as my tractors but don't abuse them either. Curious if any of you guy's have had your batteries last like this one has.

@JCM No, not really I’m still running the batteries that were in my tractors when I got them. I charge them up every so often if they are down. I only have to shake the keys at either tractor and they start so no issues here. I have had 50/50 luck with AGM batteries though. The one I got from Autozone didn’t last like I expected. I’ve had a Honda four wheeler that’s been through 2 in the almost 3 years I owned it. I do have a winch on it though.

I used to get 5 -7 years from NAPA batteries now if I get 3 from any brand it is a very good one. Some just seem to last better than others. I started getting the higher CCA ones and they seem to be lasting longer.

Lots of brands of batteries, but very few manufactures, so it's hard to tell which is the best!  I've put battery tenders on all my tractors and snowmobiles and I believe that has extended their life, but I still end up buying new batteries from time to time.  My equipment sits a lot in between uses, so I do think the tenders have helped!

@JCM All AGM or just the ones through Autozone etc..,

Can't answer that one my friend. Do not buy batteries for tractors through anyplace but NAPA. Have great luck with them so far.

@JCM  like Walmart batteries , 300 cca , 34$   , get long service out of them , all my stuff has a plug in battery tender point , makes a regular battery  last . think that tender is the key , for battery stability , pete

Batteries are like slot machines. Put $100 in and get $0 back and next week put $20 in and get $500. 3 years out of any L & G battery is considered "break even"  Some come thru and last 10 years and others last just past the warranty. doesn't matter which brand. I can buy a Walmart battery for $20 less than a NAPA battery of the same cranking power. so that's what  go with. I have tenders on all of them and usually cycle them out after 3 years. I save a couple for any tractors I service or sell and trade the worst ones in for cores after testing them.

East Penn makes a number of brands, some of NAPA batteries are made there.  Find any brand made by East Penn and buy according to price.  I use 340 CCA or higher, lower ratings are simply less battery.  ALWAYS fully charge a battery before putting it in service and keep it fully charged.  I bought Duracell batteries for my truck because they were made by East Penn, then made the mistake and bought a Duracell for a Wheel Horse that failed sooner than any I ever used, turns out it was made in USA from imported parts.

My favorite tractor batteries are the Econo-power ones I buy from the local Interstate dealer.

 

Some last 6 months, some last 3 or 4 years, but they only cost me $20.
