Swimmer 0 #1 Posted October 24 Could any of you tell me where the voltage regulator is on an early 70's 213-8? It looks lie it was up behind fly wheel fan cover, but it may be gone or moved. What amperage should it be? Could you tell me what Kohler PN the muffler is? Handy Don 12,217 #3 Posted October 24 (edited) The 300’s definitely began in the mid-80’s, preceded in the early 80’s by the B and C models. Model numbers are important. Looking at wiring diagram (search on this site for “tractor 312-8” and select “Files” and “Use all my search terms"), it seems the white wire from the engine to the ignition switch carries DC. I doubt there is a regulator--much more likely a simple diode somewhere in that white wire. You can test this with a VOM easily when the engine is running. Swimmer 0 #5 Posted October 24 Yes, typo. It is a 312-8 with a Kohler K301S, spec. no. 47812, serial no. 15076794. I found a better used muffler for it and a older voltage regulator off of another Kohler 12HP engine, but not sure if the regulator is correct. It is about three inches long by 1.5 inches wide and about 3/4 inches deep. It has two attachments flanges on long ends that used with 7/16 inch hex head bolts about 1,25 inches long. One uses a diode to rectify the AC charge current to charge the battery with no regulation. The other AC power goes directly to the light circuit as the lights will operate on AC current.
