JCD 59 #1 Posted October 22 I need to drain and refill my transmission/gear oil, I can't see the drain plug even though I know where it is supposed to be. I'd like to jack it up and use a pair of jack stands so I can get under it and be able to see. Where should I jack it up and where is a safe place for the jack stands. ri702bill 8,479 #3 Posted October 22 Does the tractor have a hitch?? It may be hiding the drain plug.... To do a proper draining of a Unidrive, you need the front wheels about a foot higher than the rears. peter lena 8,716 #4 Posted October 23 @JCD also like to jack up front wheels with jack stands , to enhance drainage , like hi mileage AUTO TRANS FLUID for a slinging / flushing agent , do you have any roads to drive on ? personally have CUL DE SACS , in my area , to put miles on that cleaning flushing , using every gear / range , might have to do it a couple of times , for total clean drainage, also new shift boot , grease the UNDERSIED OF THE SHIFT BOOT , so it slides over the irregularities on top of trans , also put a TYE WRAP ON SHIFTER ROD at exact hold point , makes that last . like CLIMBING GEAR OIL , READS SPECS , 75- 85- 90 wt , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

There is a hump cast into the bottom of the transmission, and the front section will not drain if left level. The front should be lifted as high as safely possible to get the rest of the oil out. If it’ too late, add it to the list for next time. Any good oil in there now is better than bad old oil from before. I have used hilo forks or an engine hoist in the past, to get the front end FEET above the rear end for this reason. 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

peter lena 8,716 #10 Posted October 24 @Pullstart also regularly check oil after usage , all 3 are clean / clear / full , just a regular look see after use , another thing since adding a tye wrap just above the shifter boot , and greasing the underside of the boot , so it easily slides over trans top irregularities , boots are solid , no tearing , cracking . check trans , engine oil , top off tank with STA-BIL 1,1/2 oz , no hose or carbuncle's , debris anywhere. filters are always clean , carb bowl clean / clear . regular checks for me , thanks for the response , pete 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
