Tim Shimp 2 #1 Posted October 21 Hello, I'm new to the group and I need a little help with my 520H. I'm having issues with keeping my tractor in gear when I push the lever forward, sorry I don't know the technical term for the lever, I have adjusted under the seat but that has not seemed to help as much as I thought it should, Maybe I have it too loose yet not sure how tight I should have it. is it normal that I need to keep my hand on the lever at all times to keep it moving forward? not sure. Thanks for the help.
lynnmor 7,352 #2 Posted October 22 It would be best to take that friction assembly apart where you adjusted and clean it properly. While apart, sand the friction washers flat, then reassemble with no lubricant. You can oil all the joints there and under the console plates, just keep the friction washers dry. Adjust till it takes about 7 pounds of pull at the handle.
WHX?? 49,129 #4 Posted October 22 Tim Adjustment is in the manual too. Every 520 owner should have this one. 492-4205 Eaton 11 SM.pdf
953 nut 55,734 #5 Posted October 22 Had that problem on a Wheel Horse, turned out to be a chipmunk nest inside the tunnel where the shift lever is. The nest was preventing the direction lever from going all the way forward.
Horse Newbie 7,114 #7 Posted October 23 I did what @lynnmor said and my motion control lever on my 1994 520-H stays where I put it while cruising for chicks. 🎶 There’s something women love about a Wheel Horse man 🎶

rmaynard 15,580 #9 Posted October 24 No matter what I did to adjust the motion control lever on my 1996 416-H (same transmission), I could not keep it from drifting. After hours of pushing snow with one hand on the steering wheel, one hand on the lift control, and another hand on the motion control , I decided to install a foot control. Problem solved. However, if a foot control is not an option for you, your only solution after cleaning and adjusting your cam plate may be to keep a hand on the motion control lever. It seems like this problem is more prevalent on the Eaton transmissions than on the Sundstrands. My 59 year old 875 stays where it's put.
