wallfish 17,023 #3 Posted October 20 I don't know much about those engines but we did get one of those big 2 strokes fired up and running at the big WH show using a regular old 4 stroke #26 carb. It bolted right on. Anyone that was there that evening, no matter where they were, had to hear that open pipe 2 stroke screaming away. That thing was LOUD

That thing was LOUD What was the oil/gas ratio - I remember back when Dad ran all vintage Lawn boys if you bought lawn boy oil it was ( I think ) an 8oz can of oil in a gallon of gas - in a pinch you could use regular motor oil - they smoked like freight trains - your story reminded me of those days was sitting here thinking surprised that old Kohler 2 stroke didn't fog the place too ....if mom had wash hanging out and we'd start mowing and trimming he'd hear it ...lol
wallfish 17,023 #5 Posted October 20 The OM Gary posted has it. 20:1 Modern oil is so much better than the old stuff too. I have a bunch of little 2 stroke engines from the 60s (70 or so) that call for 16:1 mix with 30w oil but we all run them at 32:1 with modern 2 stroke oil. We siphoned gas from @stevebo's snowmobile to run it. Personally I'd run it at 32:1 with a good quality 2 stroke oil but that's me. Do Not use outboard oil, it's different compared to air cooled oil. wallfish 17,023 #8 Posted October 20 Love that sound I don't see any rpm reduction so that tractor must fly with that many RPMs to the trans. Any problems with stalling the engine when taking off?
