Fuel Shutoff Needle Valve and/or Sediment Bowl?

Recommended Posts

Rick3478

Hey gang -

I'm patching up an old Coleman Powermate generator in preparation for Winter.  Not a WH product, I know, but there are some pretty knowledgeable small engine people on here, and hoping for some leads on parts.

So I got it running and working good, but the fuel shutoff valve is in pretty bad shape.  The B&S part number 592840 is still available, but I've never been thrilled with it from day one, and wondering if something better might be available.  The fuel tank has a 1/8" NPT nipple on the bottom and needs to transition to 1/4" hose barb at some point.  Yes I could just go with a hose barb adapter and do it all with the generic Stens or similar plastic valves that I can get at the local TSC, but I think those sort of suck.  I'd like to have a good steel or brass right angle needle valve, or even (holding my breath) an old style sediment bowl with needle valve.  Anyone know sources or have suggestions?

- Rick

Sediment bowls are French for "Gas Leak"

I have had good luck with this style valve.

When you find one that you like, consider adding a tee with another valve so you can drain the tank for storage.

I've not had that experience.  In the days of cork gaskets, yeah, but a decent viton o-ring usually just works.

Between then and now, I found 07-001 from Oregon and might give it a whirl.  And I guess I can't add pictures to a reply, so I'll drop a link to it.

Ball seat?  I've found those to be leakers.  YMMV.

Gender is wrong for my application, but I could add a union.  Have a link?  'll look them up and see what the seat material is.

Good thought.  Easier than turning it upside-down. ;-) Of course a sediment bowl does double duty for that.
