Because your tractor has a solenoid now and didn't when new it's been rewired to accommodate.  

 

You'll need to make your own schematic diagram and use that for repairs. 

 

You may be able to follow one of the generic diagrams created and modified here on the site but you'll certainly need to post pics to see what you have.

I stopped buying the wee little solenoids years ago for the same reason. 

I've been using HD units made by Cole Hersee. 

They're not cheap 1. by money spent or 2. on quality build. 

Worth it.

Is there any particular model number you might suggest?  They have quite a selection.  And they do look pretty robust.  TIA.
