New to me Horse

Howdy all……long time member that’s back after a horse owning hiatus. Picked this gem on Saturday with a deck and snow blower for $350. Unit was not running at the time of pickup due to some electrical problems.

I also found it needs a throttle cable (on order already with my local dealer). I’m confused on if it is a “Workhorse 800” or a “800 Special” as I seem to get both when I google it. (Model number/serial attached).
I was able to get it running after repairing some loose wires but found 1/2 the stud on the key switch for the PTO was broken. I’m going to try and solder a new wire on the stud with a butt connector so I don’t have to replace the whole unit.
If that isn’t possible is there a way to convert the unit over to a normal key switch and Solnoid as seen on many of today’s mowers?

Click on the fuzzy part of the link. Look up under the dash panel for an ID plate.

The only model of tractor that used the HH80-110112 engine.

Welcome back!

I'm a big proponent of tossing ANY questionable electrical connection right out.

Remove it.  Can it. Junk it. Trash it. Round file it.

Absolutely.

I'd recommend it.

I've done several.

@953 nut made a thread several years ago that details the various schematic diagrams.

I had a few people that weren't able to follow the drawing for Magneto ignition and pulled it from that thread. I have redone it and will add it to the end of the post.

Thanks Guys, been a busy week at work and haven’t had time until last night to take a look at it. I picked up a key switch and solenoid from the parts house this week along with the throttle cable. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to switch it all over with some temporary wiring until I can rewire the horse. (Looks like most of the harness is original and I’m going to rewire it over the winter with the correct length cables etc). Noted that the starter doesn’t sound that good when I started it to pull it out to get the model number. Wondering if there is a way to rebuild it or lube the internal parts?

@gwest_ca I attached the model/serial for you so it can be added to the list.
