rmaynard 15,434 #1 Posted October 11 Often wondered, but never asked, why the large hole in 70's and newer ID tags.
ebinmaine 67,390 #2 Posted October 11 I wondered the exact same thing as I was riveting on the tag to my 1974 C160-8 Tecumseh Horse a couple weeks ago....
rjg854 11,356 #4 Posted October 11 Maybe it was made to be bolted on as an option 2

I've thought about the same thing multiple times over the years. As we know, Wheelhorse used many "Standard Parts". I wonder if the blank tag itself is a standardized shape and/ or form. peter lena 8,600 #9 Posted October 11 @Maynard made me think , had a snowblower that I overhauled ,and sold , had a bolt on ID tag on it , came in like a garbage can , left , rotating , with total ease , lots of improvement areas to take advantage of . blower was a single stage , pete

kpinnc 11,978 #11 Posted October 11 Kinda makes me think they got 100,000 tags for free or something. Wheel Horse was notorious for using whatever they had. Some sales guy probably got a promotion for saving “X” number of dollars on that, and a plaque for “out of the box” thinking. 1

Pullstart 62,829 #13 Posted October 11 Maybe it was an assembly line thing. Simple pin holding 200 tags? Grab it and rivet it on. 1
Beap52 809 #14 Posted October 11 I assumed the hole was so a fellow could attach the plate to his keyring. That way at parts store they had all of the info needed.

c-series don 8,677 #18 Posted October 12 @rmaynard Only once did I see the tag bolted on through the big hole and that is on my 36” tiller model 7-1251 It is bolted to the gear case from the factory.

rmaynard 15,434 #20 Posted October 12 This morning I pulled out a cart to use for a little lawn cleanup. I just got this cart and I must have seen it, but never really noticed that the ID tag was mounted with a bolt. It seems odd to do it that way considering that it is not a very secure location and subject to abuse. Anyway, I guess I could have answered my own question. 6
