pto clutch disc assembly brake

Recommended Posts

JCD

My clutch disc assembly is showing up today from K and B so I go to start taking things apart and noticed I don't have the small friction plate that rides on the edge of the disc, the bracket is there as well as the bolts and washers and nuts but no piece that rides on the rim.

Is it dangerous to run it without that piece, I read that it is a safety feature or is it ok just to let the pto wind down.

Thanks,  Jim

PTO bell will just spin if there is no belt on it. Causes a little more wear on the bearings but that's it

You are talking about the adjustable brake bracket / pad assembly, right?? A lot of folks just leave it off....

It’s one bearing or the other! 😁

Letting is spin means it’s turning the “throw out” bearing the same as if the PTO was engaged (although with less load on the bearing, for sure)

If “braked”, it’s turning on the internal needle bearings.

I always remove my PTO brakes.   Makes it much quicker to change belts .   And like Don noted, less hours on the big needle bearing.

Mine are all removed as well.

I don't care if the pulley spins with nothing attached and if there is a deck, snowblower etc attached it stops anyways.

Nice thing is that if you get the PTO bell all painted up nice then the brake does not scrape a bunch of paint off.
