Thought I could refurbish the spindles but they were in too bad of shape and all three were different types Looks like I’ll go with the 8Ten aftermarket spindles I can get all three for $145 so I’ll go that route I guess. Brockport Bill 1,661 #4 Posted October 6 Next time you want to completely strip deck versus doing only spot areas, I suggest you consider having professionally sand blasted. I've done sanding disc for areas of a deck but if shell is in really bad shape all over I've found the complete sand blasting makes more sense...gets down to clean shell....plus if you plan to keep deck 10 plus years long term it's only minimal dollars spread over many years so well worth expense. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Brockport Bill 1,661 #5 Posted October 7 here is one of my 42 sd mower decks i had professionally sandblasted - one of the big advantages is if i use the sanding disc its hard to get rust off down into the rust pitting areas -- but the sandblasting removes every spot of rust everywhere - as well as in the creases - in hard to reach corners, etc --- plus, after sand blasting the paint job is significantly better quality if that's important to you??????? if the shell structurally is in good condition and someone plans to keep it decades its well worth the extra expense investment spread out over many years. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I have a 42" SD that someone swapped out the center spindle with an older double-D. It's longer than the two outer spindles, and the pulley won't work if I just replace the spindle.
