Treepep 564 #1 Posted October 5 I have been attempting to gently remove layers of paint. Original intent was repaint (poorly). Not on purpose of course. No skill. Instead I uncovered this. I'm voting wet sand, keep as is.
ri702bill 8,319 #2 Posted October 5 Looks like a 701 hood, with decals. The decals should be removed, original paint will be underneath. A heat gun works well - from underneath. I see at least three layers of paint.... maybe best to chemically strip and wetsand the original paint... my
Treepep 564 #3 Posted October 5 Folks here told me 551. Not my area of expertise. Probably will not strip much further.

Clear coat maybe??
Treepep 564 #5 Posted October 5 Yes sir, I think clear. I May let the bare metal oxidize a bit but I like it either way like this. Struggling to find a power plant that I want but moving forward. I would love to mechanical restore. I cannot remove the clevis hitch so not happening at this point.
D_Mac 8,617 #6 Posted October 5 I like leaving the finish as it's found. Yes clean it best you can, knock off any loose stuff. The finish tells it's story. Who dosnt like a good story ?

D_Mac 8,617 #8 Posted October 6 The only exception on not leaving the finish as found that I would make is that if some PO had painted it green and yellow. Then yes by all means paint it !
C-85 681 #9 Posted October 6 I recently used this paint stripper for the first time from Walmart (online) and it worked really well if you decide to start fresh! C-85
