rmaynard 15,458 #26 Posted October 1 When asked how he was doing, my late father-in-law used to say, "I woke up on the green side of the grass today". My health isn't what it used to be, but I'm still waking up on the green side of the grass. I try to stay away from talking politics, I only watch the news to make sure that we haven't entered into nuclear war, and I find myself petting my cat a lot. I go to the doctor when I'm sick, stay away otherwise. I find that he is a pill pusher, and the pharmacies love that. If my Medicare Rx plan doesn't pay for it, I don't take it. Fresh air and non-stressful exercise can do wonders for you. A walk through a mountain path is infinitely better that a walk in a city. Ice cold mountain stream water is better than beer. And seat time is a bonus. 1

But thanks for the offer.

Mickwhitt 4,623 #30 Posted October 2 Had my first full day without news 24. Many say I missed it but also do feel a bit of a disconnect. We went to the cinema this afternoon, saw Beetlejuice 2. When my dad was young his news would have arrived once a week at the cinema, how things have changed. 3 1

I'm sure much of it has been caused by the pounding they took being a mechanic for years. Having a hard time even squeezing a wire crimper. Some days even unloading the dishwasher can be a challenge. The problem with movies now days is that they are all really bad. I can't justify paying to watch junk. We read reviews that said the new Wild Robot was a great animated film. Well, we went Friday. Don't waste your money. ✓Stop going to movies. There, that's one more thing checked off the list.

We don't bother to watch until it's out on video or internet. I'm not at all sure when was the last time I've been in a theater. Yeeeaaaarrrrs.

Mickwhitt 4,623 #37 Posted October 3 There were just ten people in a 200 seat auditorium! How can they justify that? But people can sit home in front of a huge tv and watch up to date movies, it's not the treat or occasion it used to be. I did enjoy it but would I pay £15.00 to watch a film that I could wait to see at home? Maybe not. But Mrs. W insisted we go so I just had to lol. 1

Sailman 1,291 #39 Posted October 5 I have been on both sides of the political aisle and now being older I am much more conservative and care about the world we are leaving my kids and grand kids. I do not trust any main stream media, left or right. They have an agenda and my life is much better without their propaganda. There are places on the internet to get some truth, you just have to exercise critical thinking...a lost art to many it seems. Being thankful for what we have and taking care of our bodies with healthy food, not processed junk food, outdoor activities and enjoying family and friends goes a long way toward good mental health. Decentralizing is key...my family, my community, the things I can control are important. 1

My hands don't work like they should either, and I think it has more to do with the work than hosiery.
Mickwhitt 4,623 #41 Posted October 5 Watched the new Deadpool film last night. Not as good as the previous ones but a bit of chewing gum for the eyes. I'm.still avoiding the news, just looking at the headlines once a day to keep abreast of the big stories. Feeling much better after a beautiful walk to a coffee shop, during which we saw two Kingfishers, a very rare sighting. I'm nearly 60 and this is the first time I've seen this bird. Looking after myself and my close circle is the most important thing. 1

It’s so strange to me that even now, I catch myself fearing that some of my “long term” projects may not come to fruition. The realization that I have more days behind me than in front definitely alters my perspective. My dad passed almost two years ago. Saying he lived hard is an understatement. If it was unhealthy, he doubled down on it. So many people in my life have lived long lives that were ridiculously unhealthy. Smoking, drinking, poor diet. Makes me wonder sometimes what living healthy really is. Lately I’ve begun thinking that low stress is more important than anything else. Especially true for the fellas… And yeah, stay away from “The news”. Regardless of your politics, it’s just shock value now. Journalism is dead.
Rick3478 428 #44 Posted October 7 I think it was Mark Twain who said, "if I had known I was going to live so long, I'd have taken better care of myself." Still like to wrench on things, but don't have as much energy as I used to. Can't be fixed, trying to pace myself and not stress about it. 4
Mickwhitt 4,623 #45 Posted November 7 OK, so, I had to have an MRI scan on my prostate because my PSA score was up. That took place on Saturday last, simple enough job. They told me it would be a couple of weeks before I heard from them. I got a phone call today telling me they wanted to take biopsies of my prostate. Bit of a surprise because I wasn't expecting to hear for another week or so. I will get an appointment in the next week or so to go in for this procedure. I can't lie, I'm pretty apprehensive about this. Maybe the speed of the appointment is just a coincidink, I hope so. But we are used to things moving at a snails pace in the NHS and suddenly I'm on a rocket powered gurney. So on we go, another thing to deal with. Getting older sucks....

Probably a matter of having a doctor who's schedule wasn't jammed up and needs some Christmas cash. The worst part of the prostate biopsy is the preparation, nearly as bad as colonoscopy. We will pray that is all a waste of time and you are as healthy as a horse.
Handy Don 12,217 #49 Posted November 8 Prostate biopsy is an unpleasant experience. ’nuf said. But, while newer MRI technique/equipment is closing in on definitive prostate diagnosis capability, the gold standard remains the biopsy. Prostate cancer is NOT a disease to be messed with -- it kills a remarkable number of men each year in the US. Early detection and aggressive treatment, when indicated, can add decades to life expectancy. Great to hear that you're on the right path and timely. We’re with you. Good luck. 4
Marv 924 #50 Posted November 9 Had the Biopsy a few years ago. Was not pleasurable. Wasn't excruciating either. You will make out just fine. When the results come back negative, you will be very relieved. You got this! Marv 2
