Lane Ranger 10,968 #1 Posted September 30 Wheel Horse must not have been notified when this development of illuminated tires was created in 1961! Goodyear was also a supplier to Wheel Horse in 1961! 3 1

Mickwhitt 4,621 #4 Posted September 30 Certainly lit my day up seeing those pins! Maybe it was the static electrickery from her nylons causing the phenomenon. The curly earth wire looks a tad Heath Robinson through. Michelin came up with coloured tyre rubber a few years back. Genuinely coloured not just painted. One designer had the idea to layer their tyres with green, yellow and red stripes so that as it wore you got an indication of when it needed changing. Then someone pointed out that the cops would likewise be able to see if your tyres were illegal as they rode behind you. The designer was quietly removed.

8ntruck 6,999 #6 Posted September 30 Goodyear did offer tires with a colored tread row for a short time. Several colors were available so you could match or contrast the body color on the car. I remember seeing adds and maybe a review in the car magazines. Never saw one of the tires, though. Yes, these tires even left a colored stripe on the ground when a burnout was performed.

Gotta wonder if the marks on the street would glow? Knowing how things were back then, they prolly were more radioactive than an X-ray!
