looks period correct to me , the  oiled finish , and functional upgrade  is just what it needed !  another thing I like about  oiled finishes , is that , you can refresh it anytime , with a clean oiled cloth , stays smooth / clean / slick , just did my horses ,with a lubrication wipe down , no dirt / dust , just perfect era patina , go oily , pete
