The only difference between a C-145  hydro and a C-165 hydro is the horse power of the motor. Is that a true statement? The reason I ask is I have a C 145 hydro with a leaky pump. And I know where I can get a C 165 hydro donor that I know the pump is good with no leaks. Would this swap work?

:text-welcomeconfetti:to the :rs:   Should work, they both have the Eaton 1100-032 hydro.

Looks like you found a good donor. .Take us along for the swap.
Remember with hydraulics, cleanliness is key.

Just watch that they are both Eaton power.   The odd-ball 1980 C-165 has Sundstrand power.

From my spreadsheet:

01-16KS01 1980 C-165 Automatic Kohler K341AS-71803D 16 Sundstrand   90-1173

The C 145 has a Sunstrand and the C 165 has an Eaton.

I have been told to break tractor at 4 main bolts and swap entire rear end assembly out. Is this true?

NO Motion control Linkage setups are different between Sunstrands and Eatons.

Is the C-165 a roller?   Much easier to swap engines than unlike hydros.

The 165 is beat up and the 145 is way nicer so switching rear end assemblies is still what I am thinking. The motion control would come with the rear end assembly if I split at the 4 bolt?

Take a look at the linkages under the panel ahead of the seat (and forward of the 4 bolt separation point.)  They are different.

I did look and they are waaaay different. If u look at my other post about pump shaft seal leak, I have the leak stopped with 518 loctite. So mayhave dodged the swap bullet. Thanks for all the help.

No,   You will also have to replace the tunnel between the operator's legs as a unit. Easier to swap the engine, hood, fender pan etc.
