Flammables Safety Cabinet

Recommended Posts

So I got this for free but know little to nothing about them. Looking it over I see no markings on it at all. I'm told it should have a rating decal and or marking on it. Without that is it pretty much useless for any business ? More for just home use now? It's built like a Sherman tank. Heavy as heck. Has adjustable venting and a place to ground it. Even has the key to lock it. 44 inches wide. 44 tall. 19 deep. I got it for free but hoping I can sell it for some lunch money. Any value on this thing? It is solid. Could use some cleaning on inside floor. Lots of spilled paint and such. Look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions. Thanks.

For use at a business or in any location with open flames an insurance company/OSHA will want to see a UL label with fire rating numbers.

For someone putting up in a home shop you might be able to get some money for it.

I grabbed a could 8-foot truck bed cabinets and leave them outside at the corner of the garage.

I snagged a similar double door cabinet years ago for $30... Good shape, use it to store paint, fuel & such at the garage ( we do cutting, grinding & welding there)...

If you keep things like carb cleaner, paint, and other misc. volatiles in stock it might be well worth keeping.  I’d make an offer if you weren’t so far away.  Heck, with some adjustments, it could probably pull double duty as a safe.  Those things aren’t cheap.

Yeah it's built like a tank. Doubled walled. Heavy steel. It clearly will do what it was built for. Unfortunately with the UL coded decals missing it would only be good for private home owner who wants to store their flammables in their garages or barns safely. It would also make a great bottom for a work bench. I'm debating on if I want to repaint it and put a top on it or just get rid of it as is. Not sure if it's a 40, 45, or 60 gallon. Not sure on how they size them. 44"x44"x19" Bigger then it looks in pictures.

I can get you a UL label by 3 o’clock, with nail polish.

Forgot about the spicey dialogue towards the end of that.

Big money new with all the labels. Would not work well as a safe as they all use the same key. We have 4 of them at work in different buildings and the nursing home guys come down and steal our chemicals out of our cabinet instead of buying them out of their budget! :naughty:

You know I would let you have for small money, not big money ! Need to find a home for it soon, might have something green showing up at my house next week. Another freebie.

Cleaned it up some. Decided not to repaint it. Just did some touch up inside. Mostly on the floor. Got new decals on order. Once applied I will see what I can get for it.
