Pullstart 62,738 #1 Posted September 28 Hurricane Helene looked pretty vicious. @clueless @lawnman_56 @JPWH are things ok in your area?
JPWH 6,032 #2 Posted September 28 Had some wind and about 9 1/2" of rain. No damage but lost power for about 5 hours. My son lives in Grovetown, GA 165 miles east of me and he had many trees down in his yard and neighborhood. 4 1
cafoose 3,354 #3 Posted September 28 Lots of rain and strong winds yesterday but that's it 4 1
953 nut 55,005 #4 Posted September 28 We did very well, lost power for a couple hours while we slept Thursday evening but we had no tree damage and the creek didn't come out of its banks so all is good. Great deal of flooding and roads washed out fifty miles east and west of our home, storm seemed to split and gone around the mountains. @clueless is right near where the hurricane made landfall so pray for their safety. Hope all is well for @Sailman, lots of flooding near Atlanta and he is near a large string of lakes. 4 2
19richie66 17,497 #5 Posted September 28 Western NC and Tennessee look horrible. My mom is in Moorseboro a little west of Charlotte. They lost power yesterday. Just got a generator running this morning. They can’t get into town for downed lines and trees. Still not as bad as what is north of them. I feel bad for those in the region. A lot of loss all around. 😢 8
Horse Newbie 7,051 #6 Posted September 28 I’m in Monroe, NC, about 25 miles east of Charlotte on Hwy 74… Lost power sometime Thursday night, came back on at 11:00 am Saturday. Got up Friday morning to see what is in the attached videos. The noise you hear in the one video where the tree roots are “pumping “ up muddy water while the trees sway is the wind blowing. The tree that really has me concerned is the bigger White Oak. IMG_4449.mov IMG_4448.mov 1

I’m sure there was some localized flooding of streets and such, but no where near what happened in the NC and Tennessee mountains. I feel for those people. My house was struck by lightning around 8 AM on Friday, and I mean we got tagged. Blew out a couple ceiling fans and a TV inside. Blew the entire soffit off around an exterior flood light and a gutter. Burned up two small trees closest to my house. I’ve stood close to 105mm howitzers and tanks while firing, and this was considerably louder. Needless to say, all five members of my family had to change our shorts… But otherwise we just got a lot of rain. So many folks up in the mountains took the brunt of this storm, and they are in bad shape. Me personally, well we got lucky in my opinion. 4 2

clueless 2,974 #14 Posted September 29 Guys, I live at the far west end of northwest Florida, (Pensacola) we are about 240 miles west of where the eye came on shore. Got some wind and some gust around 30mph. Our late July and August dog day afternoon can be much worst than that. We've got some friends in Sopchoppy Fl. who lost their barn and part of their roof, they are on the west side (the good side if you can call it that) of the storm about 40 miles from the eye. 2
Horse Newbie 7,051 #15 Posted September 29 I was laughing at @kpinnc ‘s post where he said all members of his family had to change their shorts… Very sorry his house was damaged by lightning though… just didn’t want you guys to think I was laughing about it. 3

adsm08 2,011 #17 Posted September 29 Anyone near Asheville NC?
953 nut 55,005 #18 Posted September 29 I am about midway (and a bit south) from Asheville where the devastating flooding has taken place, and Newport TN where large water releases to prevent the Waters Dam from collapsing resulted in more flooding. Only thing I have seen is on TV and the internet. We didn't receive nearly the amount of rain here but do have some roads closed because of mud slides onto the roads and washouts. As of noon today the city of Highlands, NC was cut off from the rest of the world. All roads in and out are severely damaged or closed while downed trees are being removed. One road will be open in both directions by sundown.

My cousin's wife has family there that so far have been unreachable and she is getting worried.
953 nut 55,005 #20 Posted September 29 All of the power lined to Highlands went down along with the road damage. Phone towers have also taken a big hit, we haven't had any phone service without driving a few miles and probably won't for several days. We get incoming calls but nothing outgoing.

Apparently the missing individuals have been accounted for and everyone is alive. They just had to walk a bit from the house to get to a spot with service. 1
kpinnc 11,866 #22 Posted September 30 My wife likes to keep up with air traffic in the southeast, and today she showed me that she has seen dozens of helicopters (civilian and military) moving into and out of the mountains. Hopefully some folks up there are getting some help. I will also say there are some areas up there that are in very bad shape. If they’ve ever needed some extra prayers, it is now. 2
19richie66 17,497 #23 Posted September 30 My niece’s grandparents in law lived 5 miles from the flooded hospital. Haven’t been seen or heard from since this all started. I can’t imagine being in that area during this time. Makes you wonder how many of those houses you see going down river had people in them. Very sad. 1
Mike in NC 341 #24 Posted September 30 We live about 20 miles from VA and TN in NC, our county was hit HARD! There are many roads impassable, bridges washed out, trees and wires down. They are saying it could be a month before all of the electric is restored. Schools are closed this whole week so far and could be a long time after. These people can surely use the extra thoughts and prayers! Here are a few pictures that I took Friday. And these are not that bad. I know of atleaat 6 houses that got washed away. 3
