ethanol free gas in ct

Recommended Posts

mrc

hello all,

i just learned that the simsbury ct small airport has ethanol free gas.  i was told they would sell to the general public in approved gas containers..  the only catch is, if they ask you tell them the gas is for your airplane.   i do not know how much it costs or what octane.

the phone number is 860-459-1575

hope this helps us all.

sparky, maquest says the airport is 33 miles from andover.

regards

mike in mass.   but, i work in ct

Call em Sparky and find out ... might be quite proud of it. Guessing octane in the low nineties.

@mrcI’m sure @Sparky would appreciate the tip.  He puts in some serious miles to get the good stuff.

i live about 40-45 miles from the NY state border.  not far across the mass/ny border is a small town called new lebanon NY.   they sell 91 octane ethanol free gas.  i think i paid $4.00 -$4.50 a gallon last time i was there.   not only do i use it in my wheelhorses but i fill up my old caddy prior to winter storage.   i'm going to try this little airport next time i need real gas as i work fairly close by.    the extra travel and expense is a pain but,  no ethanol issues.:greetings-clappingyellow:

regards

mike

Well now this is good news since I live in Simsbury and the airport is less than ten minutes away.

Yeah I’d definitely be mindful of the octane rating since it’s primarily for aircraft. Avgas is definitely not the same as standard ethanol-free “rec fuel”.

There are LOTS of folks on the all-knowing interwebs that'll argue the virtues of octane til the cows come home.  🐄🐮

I've been under the impression that using a higher octane rating in a non computer controlled engine does no harm. It simply slows the burn event down immediately after the spark plug fires.

I'm absolutely open to proven answers either way on that.

It seems the aviation gas is still burning lead as a lubricant

Quote

Aviation gas still contains tetra-ethyl lead additives to lubricate the engine. Lead was taken out of automotive gas in 1986. Avgas still contains lead because a suitable alternative hasn’t been found yet, despite years of testing. Using leaded avgas in a modern car would ruin components such as the catalytic converter.

Conversely, Jet-A wouldn’t work in a gas engine. It would be like putting diesel fuel in your gas-powered car, it just won't run. However, Jet-A could be used in diesel-engine vehicles, but it lacks some of the lubricants found in road diesel fuel.

@mrc   since using  STA BIL  in all my small engine , equipment , the first thing you notice is  , no fuel hose debris , in the fuel bowl . my first  experiment with it was to clean out existing fuel sediment areas , tank , carb , so I could verify  its storage claims . replaced old hoses , fresh filters , since that change over there has been  zero / no  debris in  filters , or carb bowl , adding  an ounce of STABIL  to all my fuel tank top offs , lets me use regular ethanol  gas , without any issues , isn't that what you want ?  run 3  engines on this set up , regular gas , stabil is made for storage , chemical make up  , has worked for me . as stated  replaced filters , old hoses , cleaned tanks , no fuel hose debris  in any holding area . buy the large bottle of stabil , add it to all my fuels , no distance travel involved . run my stuff year  round , no fuel issues , my generator also uses it , fuel filter / carb bowl / clean clear , just sayin . pete
