D-160 brake and hydro release

when i apply the brake on my D-160, it does stop via the brake band but it also squeals, from the pump it sounds like. once stopped completely, it doesn't squeal, just while it is stopping. i'm thinking that the brake is applying before it goes to neutral? i haven't gotten a chance to see how the linkage from the brake releases the hydro, but if anyone has experienced the same, any ideas would be appreciated.

this is a pretty serious squeal, like the pump is stalling. just about every hydraulic device i have ever used (log splitter, industrial backhoe, garden tractor) has had some sort of whiny squeal, but not like this.
