His system is purely for financial return. His backups would be just like any other generator system.

ebinmaine 67,459 #28 Posted September 19 We spoke to our electrician friend yesterday. We can buy the needed pieces and he will do the installation. With the cord, wire, interlock, and exterior box, we should be into it for less than $400 with labor. The generator...... Who knows? That could be anywhere from $1,000 to 10 times that, depending on options.

drodg33 101 #31 Posted September 19 20 hours ago, peter lena said: @drodg33 having a generac , would figure it was set up to run the entire house , personally would get a licenced electrician to verify your capabilities , probably has a lot of experience with stand by power . that insite should make quick work of your issue , pete Well I did have a professional electrician install it. I ran with the smaller one because it was adequate to allow us to survive winter or summer. To go to the full house would have required a larger gas line that I would have had to pay for and a delay as to when the utility company could do it. So I just went with the smaller version.
peter lena 8,620 #32 Posted September 19 @drodg33 can agree for your set up , everyone is different , if I were to go bigger generac style / type , it would have to be on a separate propane set up , also requiring an underground line to tank set up . my set up gives us the basics , sump pump , another thing in my town we are on a multiple power service , recovery set up , so anything is quickly addressed . but going out at 2 am , in a snow storm to start up is not good , when possible power loss is around , just wheel the gen out , easily put this shed over it , plug into house, test run / verify , easy to use as needed , that shed has been perfect for total dry protection , in the worst weather , lay a heavy chain over it if needed . gen is 10 k , pete

8ntruck 6,998 #35 Posted September 19 We made a run to the nearest CostCo today. About an hour away. Along the way, we were the 2nd car behind a big dump truck on 2 lane. Left lots of room. But, a stone appeared out of nowhere, hit the base of the windshield, dead center. 😠 I was idly wondering if that stone got the car ahead of us as well. Probably not. The stone probably bounced over that car, or was kicked up by that car for us to catch. Looks like one of next week's jobs will be getting a new windshield installed in the minivan. 1
8ntruck 6,998 #36 Posted September 20 Sorry about that one all. Thought I was in the "what did you do today" thread when I posted it.
