lynnmor 7,303 #27 Posted October 12 While in high school I worked for a guy that had a Jeep like pictured below. It was the most gutless vehicle I ever drove with 75 HP, and I believe that was exaggeration. It competed with the Corvair and Econoline. @Ed Kennell, I had to shift gears going to and from Red Lion on 74! 1

This was the year they increased the engine from 36 to 40HP but didn't install the larger clutch that was in the bus. The clutch would start to slip a 8K miles. York VW replaced it 4 times under the 36K mile warranty. When they replaced the last one at 32K they told me after it is out of warranty, they can install the larger bus clutch on my dime. I sold it before 36K miles and vowed to never buy a foreign car again.

My Dad took our whole family of eight on an outing to Luzerne, PA (whoo hoo!) to test drive an early 60’s Econoline van as a possible family car. At the dealer, we piled in and off we went . On the first serious hill (and there are a LOT in PA around the Susquehanna river valley), it stalled and even in 1st gear would not climb. Dad had do a reverse K-turn and we went right back to the dealer. Eventually we got the first of several International Travelalls--these were precursors of the Chevy Suburban. 2
