Oil dye in an Eaton 1100?

Recommended Posts

ebinmaine

We have an oil leak that keeps reoccurring even though we have fixed several obvious spots. Is it okay to use an aftermarket engine oil dye in an Eaton 1100 transmission?

I'd like to quit chasing this.....

I don't see what it would hurt. Do you have an ultraviolet light to see it?

Those 1100's have a habit of burping out the dipstick tube.  Tie a cloth around it and check it from time to time to see if it gets soaked.

i bought a kit from my local auto parts store.

you add the dye to whatever you are working on.

run the engine, tranny,  whatever.

then put on these kit supplied yellow glasses

then you use the supplied black light and wolla!

you can then see the leak.

the kit was reasonable  $$$

We used to use talcum powder in a hand pump duster intended for garden use. Worked quite well.

Yep, one of mine does it. Especially if you roll it around much when it isn’t running.
