Dgilmored 2 #1 Posted September 7 I recently acquired a c165, model 16k801. Its in very good condition accept for the wiring. I installed a new battery but no crank with the key. i crossed the terminals at the solenoid which cranked the engine with no start. There is no spark at the points. At this point I want to sort out the wiring. I found a wire diagram for a 1981 c165 which should get me going. My issue is the rectifier. The wires coming from the engine are going to a small square box with only two wires. One is a #10, the other a #18. Is this the rectifier? My diagram shows a three wire terminal. photos.google.com: 2.webloc
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,072 #2 Posted September 7 There was a 2-wire regulator used. Look close and one of the AC wires from the stator is connected to the DC+ regulator output. The 3-wire regulators are the same but we don't see it. It is connected inside the regulator.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,072 #3 Posted September 7 Suspect your full tractor model number is 11-16K801 making it a 1984 model.
Dgilmored 2 #4 Posted September 7 Thats correct. Thank you for the info. Is that part still available if needed?

Clean and tighten ALL electrical connections including grounds. Amp meters sometimes cause this type of problem, connect both of the wires going to the amp meter to one another (bypassing the meter). gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,072 #6 Posted September 7 Yes it is but Toro is very proud of it. https://www.partstree.com/parts/toro-commercial-109313 I would go for a more popular 3-wire version with the large aluminum heat sink if you have somewhere to mount it. Dgilmored 2 #7 Posted September 7 There was a real spaghetti mess of wire. I'm going to get it back to basics, by passing all the safety switches and asseories for now just to get it running. I have plenty of room for the 3 wire version. Amazon is not as proud as Toro. Thank you for all your help.

You need the larger voltage regulator with a bid heatsink unless you will be mounting it in the fan shroud where it will have a cooling flow.
