Looks to be a "walking stick". See them here in SWVA along with a few praying mantis. They do give some the "willies, ughh".

That is a walking stick.  I haven't seen one in years.  We have many praying mantis though.

Used to play with walking sticks-probably still would if I was to come across one.  I googled and found out they are herbivorous.  For some reason, I thought they ate other insects.

The praying mantis will eat a lot of insects, they are great to have in the garden.
