Biggest mower ive ever owned

Recommended Posts

RED-Z06

Had an opportunity to trade about 5hrs of my life for this absolute unit, had to go out and buy a trailer to get it home. 27hp Command, 72" deck

Had a blown head gasket, blown rear main seal, 2 blown exhaust gaskets and needed about 30 minutes of welding on the muffler.  While i had the muffler off I was able to see how evenly it ran on both lungs.

Nice. Great machine. With that C series Kohler? You may want to look at my older post on the ignition issues you might run into. It shouldn't be throwing fire, Just a thought. That nice little black box on the fan housing controls either the DSAM and DSAI ignitions which does fail. Causing them to run out of time. It is not is not replaceable. It made my exhaust inlet on the left side (from the crankshaft side facing me) glow cutting torch orange. It would have blown out in no time. Kohler makes a kit for around $200 to convert it to MDI. The mower looks great from here. :text-bump:

The old Speed Advance Module digital ignition?  Yeah, ive got the same engine on my Simplicity Legacy XL that has a failing coil and failing module, its a pain because i want to retain the tachometer but it is signaled off the module and the kit to repair it does away with the module

Only 2 wires run your tach. 1 is ground and 1 is signal. You need to figure out which 1 is signal. Then all you have to do is trim it and wrap it around 1 spark plus wire. It should work again. But, I do have 2 good coils. Mistake before I realized the box was bad. Let me know if you want them.

This one isn't inductive, the tach is powered by the module, there is a way to do the CDI swap and supposedly make the tach work by Teeing into a wire off the coil harness, its just an expensive kit (coils, harness and flywheel) and you lose 2hp from it, and requires pulling the engine out.

From the pictures you posted? Since your fan faces the seat back, you do have to pull it for the update. Unless, the seat assembly could be removed to gain access. On mine which is a CH25S 25hp, (Schweiss 6025) the PTO drives off of the fan side and the hydraulic pump drives off of the crankshaft. So, my engine is mounted 180 degrees opposite of the way yours is. It seem like I gained horsepower. But, it also seems to use more fuel than before. I do know that it sure starts a lot better. And, does not like to be choked. The kit I got was $200.00, that is for the DSAM system. It did include coils and a flywheel. From what I understand? The easiest way to tell the difference. Lift up the black box off of the shroud. If the wires are different colors, that is DSAM. If the wires only have 2 colors? That would be ASAM. But, I wasn't interested in getting rid of the machine. So it didn't seem so expensive. The kit from Kohler has all of the directions. On the ASAM (analog) ignitions, from what I understand. Does not require changing the flywheel. So, it may be cheaper. When I looked at my old flywheel compared to the new one? The magnets are moved on the new flywheel about an inch or so. That would change the timing. Any way. Good Luck with it. I think that machine would definitely be worth the upgrade.

The Z system seems fine for now, the one with issues is my Legacy XL with the same model engine
