6wheeler 603 #1 Posted September 2 Hi all. I need some new tires for my Schweiss 6025 zero turn. The problem? It came from the factory with Carlisle Super Lug 23 X 10.50- 12's on it, as you can see in my post I made a while ago with pics of it. I know some folks were surprised that it came new with ags on it. But, that is what they were. Well, they are pretty well suffering from age cracks. And getting pretty worn out. I would really like to put some Carlisle Versa-Turfs on it. Unfortunately, There are only 2 sizes close to the original size. One being 23 X 8.50-12. The other being 24 X 12-12. I don't think I want to go with a narrower tire. But, I wonder if the latter may be a problem as well. I am not sure how these tires are actually measured. Since these tires are radials? Are the measurements different due to sidewall squat? I do know that this machine is very heavy. Especially when the bagger gets full. I wonder if a little wider would help with floatation? The reasons I would like these tires? 1, the tread design. Though it is a similar design as a lug tire, I don't think it would tend to tear as much as heavy bar lugs. While, still keeping relatively similar traction. 2, the radial design. I am hoping just because of this design, they will help with the ride with a softer sidewall. I do have room for the larger tires, I just don't know how much larger actually they are. And, adjusting the deck for a height difference is not an issue. What do you all think? Opinions Do count on this. Thanks Pat
8ntruck 6,996 #2 Posted September 2 (edited) My opinion - the 24 x 12-12 are nominally 1.5" wider and an inch bigger in diameter. That means you will loose about 1/2" clearance on the diameter and 3/4" clearance between the frame and inside of the tire. Your travel speed will increase slightly as well, due to the circumference being about 3" bigger. You might want to compare rated loads between the old tire and the new tire. For longest life, you will want the new tire to have the same or higher load rating. If there is enough clearance, I'd put the bigger size on. Disclaimer - various tire manufactures claimed tire dimensions vary from actual. I think Carslile claimed sizes are pretty close to actual. Of course, it is your machine so in the end the final decision is yours. Edited September 2 by 8ntruck
