jsp_333 268 #1 Posted September 1 I've got a '64 Lawn Ranger with the Tecumseh H60-75063B. Engine has no spark. Have tried known working spark plugs. Pulled the flywheel and did continuity between magneto and spark plug wire got a reading of 8.75. Disconnected all the wires running off the magneto. Only other odd thing I can see is that the spark plug wire is rubber at the top of the boot and so the connection to the plug is the metal wrapped around the inside of the s.p. boot. Is there a specific plug for this kind of boot. Anything else I should be looking at? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

jsp_333 268 #3 Posted September 1 So the points definitely aren't opening to .020 What I have figured out is that there is a gap between the black armature and the flywheel shaft. I can't see any way to adjust that. Also can't figure out how to widen the gap to .020 when that arm is centered on the cam portion of the shaft. Are these adjustments possible? ri702bill 8,311 #4 Posted September 1 You just moght be looking in the wrong spot !! The gap is adjusted with the single screw, with the rubbing block pad at the top of the cam lobe.... Loosen the screw and wiggle the bracket side to side to get the pionts to open .020. Next to the screw are 2 notches where a flat blade screwdriver when twisted will move the bracket WITH the screw not-quite snug...Set the gap, tighten the screw. Those points look to be beyond being usuable - time for a new set..... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
wallfish 16,994 #5 Posted September 1 It only matters when that lobe is in contact with it. That's when the points open and what opens it. Those contact surfaces need to be clean in order to make contact. Even new points too as they are coated so they don't oxidize in the package. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I was able to adjust the points as described by wallfish & ri702bill BUT not until I moved the cam so the points were in the closed position. I then tweaked by loosening the screw and moving the adjustment lever to the right.
