Dennis A. Ryan 1 #1 Posted September 1 I have a 1990s 267 Hydro lawn and garden tractor. It has developed a lot of play in the steering and I can see the steering shaft gear is not firmly meshing into the toothed plate, probably due to wear. I’m afraid it will get to the point that one or the other will strip and I’ll no longer be able to steer it. I’ve lubricated these gears to make steering easier, but wondering if there is a method to adjust one or the other to have them mesh together closer and tighter? ebinmaine 67,768 #3 Posted September 1 @PWL216 I know you have a 200 series mower. Any thoughts?
rmaynard 15,535 #4 Posted September 1 I have no experience with your model, but download the section of the manual shown below. It has the procedure for adjusting steering backlash.

ROK2024 0 #6 Posted September 2 I have a 267H, in 2020 I replaced the Lower shaft bushing and pinon gear/steering shaft. The half moon sector gear and upper bushing were pretty good and kept them. Because it has Tilt steering I was able to shortcut to the Service manual instructions and able to R&R the parts after I loosened and lifted the dash without removing it. Mostly out of necessity as I couldn't get the steering wheel off. With some gentle persuasion I separated the shaft from the Tilt U-Joint. I'm looking at some pics and notes and using a few foggy memories to help decipher what I have.. wish I could be more precise. For steering slop check the front axle tie rod bushings too. That's on the to do list. Parts Manual FORM NO. 3318–934 REV.
