Tooonz 4 #1 Posted August 29 It seems my transaxle is leaking fluid. It’s getting hard to go in reverse now. Looks Iike it is leaking where it splits. Any information on how difficult this could be to repair would be helpful, my local tractor repair person said this is too old for him to work on.
953 nut 55,734 #2 Posted August 29 Here is the Sundstrand manual which shows your transaxle. Also, a thread that shows how to rebuild the transmission if you need to, @daveoman1966 did a great job on this.
oliver2-44 9,847 #3 Posted August 30 If you just need to replace the split gasket you can leave it mounted on the tractor and remove the case side that does not have the pump/motor sitting on top of it.
pfrederi 17,856 #4 Posted August 30 Clean it up then look for the source of the leak. Unless the bolts holding the case together are loose they rarely start leaking between case half's. Check the axle seals Also inspect front of the tranny. Behind the motion control box is a frequent leak site. Runs down the front then back along the bottom of the tranny. Hard to get in reverse inspect the plastic slider in the motion control linkage for cracks or excessive wear/play...
