little red riding horse 223 #1 Posted August 29 Hi people So engine runs sweet , drives well .. as soon as i go to engage the cutting deck it dies out, actually stops... out of ideas ! below is what ive done replace fuel lines to carb replaced fuel tap , inc new fuel filter and cleaned out fuel tank checked electric fuel pump , (running and pumping as it should ) original one died few years back stripped down & cleaned out carb & replaced and checked inlet manifold gasket for leaks once back on cleaned and re-gapped spark plugs checked both plugs are working (removed leads while it was running ) think i replaced condensor few years back ... im thinking fuel starvation but looking at the filter its getting plenty of fuel What have i missed ? im out of ideas !! 8ntruck 6,998 #2 Posted August 29 Is the mower deck turning freely? Are the pulleys in the mule drive turning freely? I've got a 42" rear discharge deck that I need to go through. One of the few things i havent done.. i actually did all this because it was running really rough back firing and so on ... running nice now but wont run the the decks .. do they prefer any specific type of plug ? how many safety switches are there for the pto ? i know there is one safety switch under the seat ... just wandering if it could be that ... ill replace the plugs anyhow though because they are old Many thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

PWL216 889 #7 Posted August 29 I agree with @Bill D. If you want to be sure that it’s not the deck causing the issue, disconnect the belt from the PTO pulley. If it still cuts out after that, it’s very likely a safety switch issue. 1 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Also put new spark plugs in... what a difference... so want to take blades off next and sharpen them, what would be the correct size socket ? and are they a right hand thread ? You will need a 1 1/8" socket and it would be very helpful to have a 1 1/8" open end wrench that has been filed down thin enough to hold the spindle from turning.
