Onan engine ignition coil

Recommended Posts

Seeking a working ignition coil (new or used) for an  E125V-N/10964B engine. Onan part number for the coil is #1660799, but every dealer I contacted said they are out of stock as is Cummins as well. Cummins said that they are trying to source a new supplier and there is at least a 200 business day back order lead time. This particular coil has a spark plug lead and a separate cable sheath enclosing the mag wire to kill the engine and a pass through wire (not physically connected to the coil) that connects regulator and tractor charging circuit wiring. I do not need that wire and can just use the wire from my existing coil so any coil perhaps used on non-charging system engines that is physically compatible will work. Hope you can help. Thanks.

Hi Richard,

I contacted Lincoln as you suggested. He said that he did not have any new coils but may have a used one on another engine he could sell to me. Wasn't 100% sure though and is checking on it for me. Keeping my fingers crossed! I'll let you know the outcome.

Thanks for the lead.

Regards......Jan

Richard,

Lincoln located a used coil that he tested for spark before selling it to me. I installed it the other day and my engine fired right up and appears to run  fine. This coil variation did not include the pass through charging circuit wire include in the kill wire sheath and just pulled the wire out of the sheath from my old coil and inserted it. Thanks so much for the referral. Without a working coil, I was stuck with a 400 pound yard anchor!

I may have  used parts for this motor as well. Mine is a E140 tho but parts might cross.

WHX,

I was able to obtain a used coil for my engine that appears to have done the trick. Thanks for following up.
