5-1482 48" Mower Deck: Missing R.H. Mounting Plate, Arm pivot, and associated assemblies.

Recommended Posts

Just realized today that I'm missing some parts.

Have 4497 Plate, LH mounting. Which is just a simple plate:

On the other side I'm missing pretty much everything:

In particular, I'm missing 6712 plate R.H Mounting plate and assembly:

7068 Assy - Cam Lever:

Do have 6725 Arm Pivot and a few of the associated parts.

Otherwise I'm missing all the associated pulleys, brackets, bearings, and such in these assemblies.

Checking with PO, maybe he'll look for them tomorrow. I don't know. Frustrating.

If I have to, I can make these parts but would need to measure an existing example. Would prefer to buy if anyone knows a source. Can post in want to buy if needed.

My grass keeps getting higher...

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

IMHO---  Don't even look for those missing parts for the SIDE MULE drive apparatus.  It is one of the most cumbersome setups ever to deal with...and hard to find.  Better that you UPGRADE to the FRONT MULE DRIVE system including the Tach-O-Matic hardware as part of the UPGRADE.

This is great! Looks to be a much better system. Purchasing the parts now.

Thank you so very much!

Just realized the middle tach-o-matic I bought is missing a part. The middle lever. Just going to make one from 1/2" diam cold roll and 1/4x1" bar hot or cold roll. Any chance someone could take a side view picture? I.E. the direction of the arrow?

Looking at a few more pics, looks like I need 1/4x1-1/4 or 1-1/2" bar.

Thanks @pfrederi!

Meant to be done with this yesterday, but got too many irons in the fire. Here's where I'm at now. Hopefully my gullets aren't to shallow, but I think I'll be alright. Will make a post detailing it all when I'm done.

I don't think the stock lever would have worked for my 48" deck anyhow. The stock spring loaded bar and lock wheel is too short to get me the 7" separation I need. (I'm just going to use 1/4" pins to lock it, for now, instead of making a new longer bar with clip grooves. Maybe later.)

I'm going to do some measuring and head scratching tomorrow. There are washers welded onto the ends of the bar on the deck that the hitch attaches to. Not sure if they're stock or of they're added. I'm either going to need to remove them, hammer on them a whole bunch, or thin my lever hooks. I'm thinking they'll get taken off.

The attach-a-matics look simple and operate easily, but they are very cleverly engineered and the shape/dimensions are quite precise to make that possible. Unless head scratching and trial and error are fun for you, I’d seriously consider getting a used direct replacement part.

I don't think the stock middle tach-o-matic would ever fit my 1969 48" mower deck. The hitch bolted to the inside of the frame fits the deck at 3/4" diameter locations. The lever part of the tach-o-matic has to go on the 7/8" diameter section of the mounting bar of the deck. I'm waiting on a piece of 1/4x2" bar to come in so I can make a correctly sized lever. 1.5" wide stock and my 7/8" drill will probably blow out the side and grab. If I was milling, I could get away with 1.5" stock.

As for precision, I'm seeing -.030 and -.050 on clearances. Lots of slop is built in, as it should be. There is a .060 offset on the lever axis to clamp point that does a lot of the magic.
