ebinmaine 68,205 #2 Posted August 21 You can either run SAE 40 oil, 75 to 80 W 90, or up to 140. We run the least expensive 75/80 W 90 I can get my hands on when I need it. Doesn't matter if it's gl4 or gl5 because Wheel Horse transmissions don't have yellow metal parts. Either one is fine. 4 1

BBQVultureWings 111 #6 Posted November 1 We have a hazardous waste & household chemical disposal place here. they have a "re-store" you can take all kinds of stuff out of there. I rarely buy 2 cycle oil or spray paint anymire since I can get it for For FREE I have also found 2 part epoxy paints, impliment paint, Naptha, Thompsons water seal, Dry Lok, & even the rare occasional auto paint from this place. I get a lot of break parts cleaner, carb cleaner, acetone, mireral spirits, some kerosene in small containers such as lamp oil.... for cleaning parts. Often get a good amount of starting fluid, motor oil, ATF & some gear oil too. it's worth the trip to me as I go throught that stuff quickly & the prices are never going down, So being short of 1 money tree in my back yard, I opt for a trip down there once a week, You guys might check to see If your local areas have something such as this. Here it is called "Under the sink". they have a website. I figured I would share this information here because All of these fluids cost us Money. If we can get even 20% of our consumables for free it is a win. we are gonna burn the gas to go to a retail outlet to purchase it anyway, so If we are just burning some gas & getting some for free that works even better in my opinion.... I hope this info helps someone find a resource to better feed their Wheel Horse Habit & increase "disposable income" for well, what the Heck else? Another Wheel Horse of course... http://www.underthesink.org/index.htm I have no idea how to find this in other areas but I do know that disposal sites are becoming a much more common thing so sending an email or making a phone call may help you find a good source for this stuff. I know a lot of this comes from esate sales & family members cleaning out uncle or grampy's garage after they pass away or go into a home & do not want to send this stuff to the landfill so many communities are providing a place to propperly dispose of it. Ours just happens to provide a free "re store" where you can take all kinds of the stuff especially latex paint.... & good stuff too like Diamond vogel or sherwin williams paints & stains all of it is Free. look around your local areas. maybe I should make a separate thread for this topic alone i dunno but I do know the first place I am looking for my fluids is the free place. Awesome program. Nothing like that around me... I don't use my own fuel to go to the store either. Online order. Lowest possible price. Free shipping. Saves my time. The freight company is already burning their own gas/diesel for other reasons. Best we can do here.
BBQVultureWings 111 #8 Posted November 1 I forgot all about the online ordering capabilities we enjoy now as I was up on my soap box again about this. Having just joined the 90s & got a phone that texts.... I just recently started using that in the last year or so...
peter lena 8,716 #9 Posted November 1 @gt14rider regularly check my trans oils , prefer the lighter low end temp 75 and 90 on top , also like the climbing gear oil , look for specs on bottles , been using lucas oils , do a regular check over after every use , that grease under the shift boot , helps it slide / move easily and makes the trans irregularities a no hang up issue , also a tye wrap on the shifter stick just above boot has helped extend life , move the boot around and find its happy spot , no severe bends , pete
