Lee1977 6,917 #1 Posted August 21, 2024 (edited) Debby got me way behind and I can't catch up. By the time I get ever thing mowed some if it weedeated it's time to start over. Have not had live limbs broke but 8 or 10 bent down in the way that I haven't had time to cut off. We had 12 to 13 hours of constant heavy rain and a few more storms the next.week. One of my mowing tractors don't want to start and haven't had time to fix that. Any body else have this problem. Edited August 21, 2024 by Lee1977
ebinmaine 69,706 #2 Posted August 21, 2024 In a way... yes. This past winter we a storm that was 18" to 21" of white material that was a lot like cement. Heaviest snow/slush/muck I've ever seen. We're fine for the most part except that the dead branches will take literal years to get shredded. You'll get there...
lynnmor 7,477 #3 Posted August 21, 2024 For me it hasn't been rain but heat this summer, it wasn't fit to go outside most of the time. Add to that is fixing new junk and impossible to find parts that wastes too much time. As I age the ability to put in long hours is in the rear view mirror. Today is beautiful and I am finally working on those logs for firewood that should have been done months ago. Of course now the pressure tank on my water system wants me to spend some quality time with it. Never ends.
Bill D 2,050 #4 Posted August 21, 2024 (edited) The needs of aging parents, house repairs, and general maintenance plus working 10 1/2 hour days doesn't leave much time for fun with tractors these days. Edited August 21, 2024 by Bill D

adsm08 2,383 #9 Posted August 21, 2024 Hasn't been hurricanes or even the heat that's got me of schedule this year. My left leg has had me side-lined for weeks now. I push through at work because I have bills to pay, but by the time I get home about all I can do is sit and hurt. And then @Ed Kennellhad to post that picture and remind me. The other night when I went over to get my log splitter back from my dad one of the wheel bearings was gone.

Heck, my 3.5 year old knees got me thru the day just fine, 4 years ago was a different story. If you are a good candidate for parts replacement, feel free to ask me a lot of questions. Sounds like @adsm08 might need to swap out some parts. Edited August 21, 2024 by lynnmor

If I get joints done now they will likely need to be done again before I die. I have another 15 years to go before I'm in the window for joint replacements. I've been seeing a chiropractor for the last two weeks and it's getting me some relief. I was actually good all day today, hopeful that I might be able to come home and walk the dogs, and as I was coming up the walk at home it went.

This has been the wettest summer I've seen in several years. I can't believe I'm saying so, but I need to get my wife some more goats! Cheaper and less work to just heat up the fences!

Morning humidity is high and gradually drops to 30% or so when it gets above 100f. We were lucky and had some rare rain in July that kept us in the 90’s. Actually had a mid 80 day in July Pastures we’re actually green through end of July. But August has been a sizzler.

Maybe this winter When my mother had her first knee replacement the results were so good she couldn't wait to have the second one done, great improvement in her mobility. As @adsm08 said, they won't last for ever, my mother's replacements were in need of replacement after about 30 years but at that point she was not a good candidate for the surgery being well into her 90s. My wife and I seem to take turns being caregiver for one-another, so far the only replacement part needed was a shoulder for my wife.

But Mrs. Ks back, left foot and latest right foot fusion in Feb. has put me three caregiver turns behind. Hopefully two more months of therapy will get her back on her feet. Then I can catch up with a couple knee replacements.

I'm 38, given my family history, barring accident or major unpredictable medical event, I am likely to be relatively healthy and in control of my faculties in my mid-90s. So most doctors say that unless I am completely incapacitated they wouldn't consider joint replacement until I'm at least 60 to 65.
Inspectorjoe 472 #19 Posted August 23, 2024 I've been dealing with long covid for the past three years. I'm 64 but my body feels and acts like I'm at least 84. I'm nearing the end of a three year project to make the backyard easy to take care of. To achieve that, I cut down 68 overgrown leyland cypresses (about 40-42 feet tall), burning them in the inground pool, getting rid of the pool and a retaining wall, and hopefully, converting the backyard too all grass by September. I'm really struggling to get it ready to plant the grass before the optimum time passes by. It's killing me.Thankfully, my 69 year old wife (she's a cougar) has been helping in every way she can. There's going to be a celebration when this is done.
