RED-Z06 2,221 #1 Posted August 20 Onan 20hp, last year the pulse pump started weeping, i had a kawasaki solenoid style pump on the shelf for my old Exmark 27hp. I hooked it up to switched 12v, and voila..it worked. It worked all year. Today, 20 minutes into mowing, tractor slowed..died, filter was empty..tank was half. Pump was chattering away but doing nothing. I keep a few low psi pumps on hand for customer equipment, they are spec's to a deere 322 (yanmar gas engine) so they work well on most all small engines. I put it on, key on..filter filled..started up and ran fine. I finished the last bit of grass, and this afternoon mowed in back...15 minutes in, exact same thing. I put the old pump on and it worked again..about 5 minutes and died. The pumps feel hot, like really hot...they are mounted with air movement in mind, and the power going in is a clean 13.8v. The fuel system isn't restricted anywhere, fuel flows very freely. Ive used one of these pumps on a 13hp honda generator that ran 28hrs nonstop without any problems. Ed Kennell 38,329 #2 Posted August 20 I don't know if it applies to the failure of your pumps, but I believe several of mine have failed due to running dry.

Ive seen that also, people that repeatedly run them dry. This morning, having done absolutely nothing to anything...both pumps work fine, its got to be heat related. It was 97⁰ yesterday, possibly they just got too hot.
Tuneup 1,433 #4 Posted August 21 The pump I just installed made note that it was best to install it on an up angle from input to output to address vapor lock which 'happens'. I haven't used mine in the hot Georgia summer yet and it's mounted at almost 45°. Time will tell.

RED-Z06 2,221 #6 Posted August 21 I put a rotary vane type on my 312 a couple years ago and it worked good for a couple months then one day it just didn't. The plastic vane had melted abd extruded out the outlet and into thr fuel line. Its hot here yall🫠
carlosking450 155 #7 Posted August 23 Hello everyone from Spain, I installed an electric pump on my 702 and it burned out internally. I recently installed a non-original vacuum pump and so far so good.
rick 233 #8 Posted August 25 The electric fuel pumps are better at pushing fuel, so the closer to the fuel tank the better. I have one Facet and one round pump and they work fine in 90º+ for 3 hours or more. I mounted them under the seat pan. 416H and 314-8.

True of electric, pulse, and mechanical pumps. Yep keep them close to the tank and below the tank so they never lose prime.
