Ed Kennell 38,120 #27 Posted August 12 My "Secrets" to thinning the herd and other hoarded stuff. Having restored a few, built a couple customs, bought and sold over 50 in the past 30 years, I have accumulated a few buckets of parts and have had about 15 tractors at one point. All the above mentioned reasons, storage (I never left any out side), battery and fuel maintenance prompted me to only keep the ones I use. A 312H that mows, plows snow, tills, hauls firewood, and hauls me to my deer stand. A 310-8 that mows and hauls me to my tree stand. A 520H with a Dual stage blower with heated cab that will probably never get used to blow snow, but can haul me to my deer stand on cold days. A custom two seater that hauls me around shows and to my deer stand. Recently liquidating my Mothers and MIL's estates and my friend's Wheel Horse collection has prompted me to instruct my family to call the auctioneer when my time comes. 5

953 nut 55,170 #29 Posted August 12 In my case storage room is not a problem and I use non-E gas with Sta-Bil on everything jus in case it may be (and has been) a year or so since they have been used. I have been seeking new homes for projects that I will never get to. I would hate to think of them being sold as scrap metal after I'm gone so finding people who appreciate them while I can. The new to me A-60 Electric Wheel Horse is a keeper for sure, It gets used just about every day. @WHX??, @Achto, @Mike'sHorseBarn The 310-8 keeps the lawn looking good, 418-C plows the snow and the 953s put a smile on my face so they stay. Guess I'm not good at the "THINNING THING" am I. 3 8

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #33 Posted August 12 I have an easy solution to herd thinning and getting rid of the cr*pola that I have gotten over the years. Load up the truck and drop it off at my son's house. He loves it but my daughter in law, not so much. My granddaughter's love the 312-8 and can't wait to drive it. At 7 and 9 years old they have to grow some. 2 1 1
PWL216 889 #34 Posted August 12 (edited) @JCM @midpack As a reminder, I’m still looking for a nice 300 series tractor or a 252-H or 256-H. I’ll be at the Berwick M&G. I’m also considering selling my 520-H with the bucket loader. I find that I’m not using it much and I hate to see machines sit. peter lena 8,606 #35 Posted August 12 @JCM can definitely relate to that issue , have 3 , but my physical ability to do any related grunt work is all but done , swapping ,plow , decks , also interest is not the same , of course paying someone to do yard maintenance / plow snow , has the view of taking care of your home , attached to it . years back sold off , decks , tractor , blower , emphasised the function , and condition of it , probably been sitting outside , in tall grass , trashed . rarely see any lawn anything , that is not trashed , pete 5

Lane Ranger 10,968 #38 Posted August 12 Ah the most difficult decision to make for an addict is to wean off the addiction! I know my brother and I had about thirty at one time six or seven years ago. Maybe thirty or more attachments of all kinds. Located in three buildings (one shed, one horse barn, one garage and a 8 x 24 enclosed truck bed that one housed an experimental aircraft. We liked the round hoods . We started with the RJ's as kids in 1961. Wore one out changing motors and rebuilding transmissions. In about 2006 we decided to take one of my dad;s old 1054's ad redo five years later we have five or six 1054's and two 953's. We were given tractors . We bought tractors from$60 to $1200 or so. We modified tractors like Lawn Rangers, 704's, etc We had almost every type of cart Wheel Horse sold. We had every type of cutter bar or sickle bar. Mowers galore, parts, parts, parts. Electric clutches, hitches , unicorn log splitter, etc. We made social parts -drawbar hitches, extended brake rods, reel mower lift parts, etc. We still have twenty plus and I am hard pressed to name them all. I have three RJ.s in my garage, one outside that is a project with a newly rebuilt transmission I hope to redo (I have five grandchildren and hope some of them may be able to convince their fathers to let them keep one). I have a 701, 702, 854, 1974 B-80, 1997 314-8 in my garage. My brother has three 314's. (two hydros), a 312-8, three 1054s, a 1965 Lawn Ranger, a C 160-8, a B-80, a C-100, a nice 633 , an 800 Special, etc Our thinning plans are probably not very well implemented at this point! It would just be like loosing your spouse! 4 5
JCM 9,130 #39 Posted August 12 THANK YOU @Lane Ranger for taking the time and effort to remember and write that all up. Very well detailed, WOW. I thought I loved WH. I was married for 19 years and have owned WH 's for 35. When I bought my second one she flipped out. Needless to say She is not around but the tractors are. I now have a lady that put's up with me and my toy's for the past 19 years. She likes to play too, it works. Thank you again 2

Mike in NC 341 #41 Posted August 13 (edited) I have 4 WH's, but a total of 25 garden tractors, several walk behinds and the rest riders. I have a mixed bag of makes. I like them all. there are 3 or 4 that I would part with, but the rest stay. Storage is a problem but I enjoy the hobby. I also collect hit n miss engines and antique Briggs engines. I have sold just a couple in the past and kick myself for it all the time. Edited August 13 by Mike in NC 5 1
ML3 1,195 #42 Posted August 13 (edited) Right now I'm at 7 Wheel Horses. I'm totally maxed out on storage. Somehow I have 6 of the 7 tractors in garage along with 2 vintage motorcycles, vintage moped, & 3 hit/miss engines. Still have room for my big toolbox, tool bench, etc. And......still manage to get 2 of the 3 vehicles I own in garage too! We have a shed that's 10'x16' but only 6'x10' of it is mine. The rest is finished, insulated, heated, etc & is her "she shed" for her hobbies. I want to put up another 200sq/ft shed behind garage. It's probably good that I share the airplane hangar with another pilot otherwise I'd probably end up storing more toys there. 2 planes (mine & his), a toolbox, tool bench, my Cadillac & his Shelby Mustang is enough in there. ohiofarmer 3,265 #44 Posted August 16 I had thirteen and now down to twelve.I had just bought two Black hoods plus all kinds of extras for two bills and saw a c160-8 and daggone another one showed up as an auto. I never run extra batteries but change them out. Just one year ago i was at high risk for death or being paralyzed due to a bacterial infection. It slowed me down a good bit and it down down and makes me think this stuff could be a burden to others.. My twelve hour days are more like four now Daughter is soon to graduate with an advanced degree and my wife is getting double knee replacement. You get old and give out and it can happen before you plan .You stay busy , but just with other things. I have a 314-8 as my main worker and God has blessed us with timely rains. Our soybeans might break 70 bushels based on what the yield looked like at 66 a few years ago. The grass just kept going. I said that I would always make sure two mowers were attached and ready, but I took all the decks off to store them tighter last fall. So this year it is mowing and working on the truck. That project was all done, but I forgot to clock the driveshaft and it is out of balance, I have it rigged on super heavy jack stands so it can be run off the ground and start with getting the driveshaft more balanced. We just keep running like before retirement but wity more stuff to do. Anyway , the wheel horses will probably be reduced to a short frame to drive an ice cream freezer , the 314, and the two 160's and maybe another worker. Oh, and a 520 with snow plow and,and,and.... 6 1

SylvanLakeWH 25,525 #49 Posted August 19 (edited) Timely topic for me... Space constraints and a bad back are necessitating the break up of the SL&WHN RR... the custom cars are listed in the non-wheel horse section of the classifieds and those of you who are Supporters of the site may wish to check out the discount offered (Rhymes with "Free")... (The E-141's are spoken for). The A-60 and a custom cart are now in the classified section... I'll be down to the C-105, the Roundhood Yard Art, and one small utility trailer... Still not bad... Time marches on... Edited August 25 by SylvanLakeWH
